We had a definite hiatus in May, mostly due the coverage we were committed to for other Nebraska High School spring sports championships. So over the rest of June we hope to get you caught up on what we have been trying to follow and what we also might have missed during the May live period. June is a great time to also catch players with their high school teams and we hope to get to see some of that as well.

Over the next few weeks our goal will be to highlight some players who made strides during the month of May and how they might also position themselves for the July live period as well. Here is part one.

Irons was a huge part of the success for Lincoln Southwest and has continued her excellent play with ETG Midwest in May that included a 22-point effort at Live at the Lakes in Minnesota. On an ETG team that is full of playmaking guards, Irons is a player who can make the open three-point shots, get to the rim and create open shots for her teammates as well. She averaged 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals in the Silver Hawks run to the Class A state tournament last March. Irons game should be a hit at the next level.

We go first eyes on Grace at the state basketball tournament in March for Millard West and her ability to knock down open (and big shots) as a freshman was impressive. She has continued her solid play for Nebraska Attack in May with solid outings in Pennsylvania and an excellent outing at Live at the Lakes in Minnesota. As she continues to improved as a ball handler and her ability to get to the rim she'll be a very difficult player to guard as the summer moves on and for the Cats next winter.

A standout leader for Bishop Neumann, we got our first look at Cernik playing for her Nebraska Supreme team at a Puma Live Period game in mid-May. In Council Bluffs, Cernik's game stood out. She can guard multiple positions and has the ability to get downhill quickly on any type of defender. Cernik has a game that will transition quickly to the small-college level in Nebraska and beyond. This past winter she led the Lady Cavs with 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while also accounting for three steals per contest. Currently has spring offers from Briar Cliff, Morningside and Midland University.

Another freshman that is leaving a mark on the summer circuit has been Daugherty. She played minutes for the Class A state champions Lincoln North Star in all 28 games and averaged 3.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest during her freshman campaign. Daugherty is a versatile post who should be in line for a big sophomore season. This summer she is playing "up" for the Nebraska Attack 16U team and had a big performance at Live at the Lakes where she scored 56 points in four games including a single-game high of 28 points in their opener.
