Uncommitted Standouts From WBCA/WIAA Summerslam

The scholastic live period in Wisconsin is in the books, and it had more teams than it had in the past four years. There were talented players all over the place, and schools from around the state and beyond. I had plenty of discussions with college coaches about players at the event, and we'll highlight some players who caught people's attention over the two days in Appleton. I also can't say enough good things about the WIAA and WBCA about how they handle this event; it keeps getting better every year I attend.    The Bay Port forward has put together an excellent three months of basketball in the grassroots season and was impressive in Appleton over the past few days. She has an edge to her game that you see every time she's on the floor, and she's developed her skill set over the past few years. She had one move in particular that was impressive. Thompson made a play where she jabbed to the right, attacked with her left hand, and finished with her left hand in the lane.     One of the players who made a name for herself over the past few days. The Marshfield native made impressive plays in every game she played. Her physicality and size initially caught the coaches' attention, and she was impressive with the ball in her hands. She will be a player whom college coaches will keep tabs on over the next few years.     One of the players who was impressive with the ball in her hands. McCarthy also showed her skill with her footwork around the basket. She got to her step through almost whenever she wanted to and played off two feet well. The Eau Claire native had an excellent first season of high school basketball and has continued to raise her level of play over the past year.     The Fox Valley Lutheran guard missed the first day of games, but did attend the second day. She has a poise to her game that's palpable whenever you watch her play. She handles pressure well and is comfortable with the ball in her hands, and helps generate open shots for her team every time down the floor. I've enjoyed watching her operate on the ball over the past few months, and she is a player who is slightly under the radar for the talent she has. She has a chance to be an excellent guard.
