AAU Szn Review: Prospects We Learned A Lot About

With evaluating so many teams over the last six months on the road we have learned about several existing prospects out of the state that can really hoop. The type of players that are good enough to play the college level one day if they were to want too. In this piece, we highlight a few of those prospects.   Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!    Addison Glass took the AAU floor this Spring/Summer season following another big time Winter at Hinton High School and she made waves with her AIA team with her combination of height and coordination. During Winter time Glass is a hooper that makes a lot of her magic happen near the basket. She is extremely coordinated so she is good enough to step to the outside to spread out the defense as well but her Varsity team has a lot of skilled Guards so she doesn't necessarily need to do that. During AAU, she has shown more of her ability as a Guard. Their offense they run with is a 5-0 or 4-1 type of style so consistent movement means everything to their success. Glass is going to return this Winter as of the top prospects on her Hinton team. She is going to be looked upon as one of their leaders in charge at all times so I'm sure she will be locked in and ready to go when that time comes.     It might still be a little bit early but Ellie Owen of DSM Christian is an able prospects, that is going to be able to contribute to the college level in someway one day soon if she so chooses. Owen is someone that has been overshadowed during High School ball but that won't be the case this Winter. We should see her in her full form, making plays on both ends and putting up noteworthy numbers in process. This AAU season has been one to remember for Owen. She did a good job of averaging similar numbers to when she is on the high school Varsity floor and that speaks to her consistency. If you look back last season she averaged just under 10 PPG, just over 4 RPG, along with 2 APG and 2 SPG from the SG/CG/SF position - making her mark in every single positive statistical category. Owen is a hustle player. She hustles and she shows up with production. What else can you ask for?     MV finished up her AAU career on a high note the last few weeks with her Western Iowa Express 17U team. Vetter was the leader of this group. She has been for the last few years now. She is a PG, that is at her best when the ball is in her possession coming down the floor. She can control and command the offense to a T, she can control pace of play of the entire game with how she manipulates each possession, and she is selfless enough to be able to move off the ball without a hiccup. Defensively, she can cause chaos in the full or half court, depending on what is being asked of her by her coaching staff. This Summer solidified the solid AAU career that Vetter just concluded. It helped prove that she is a college level talent and that's going to be a full display with some team at the next level following this Winter season.     I am hoping that Adeline Rowe of DCG High School will get some playing time this Winter with the Mustangs. If you don't know, this program has been one of the best and most consistent programs throughout the state for at least the last five seasons. They run really good action and they have usually have D1 level talent to back that up so it's not a simple task to go to DCG to compete on the WBB court but I do think Rowe could see some spot minutes. She is a sound SG, that keeps getting better as she gets older. She might not be the one to put up huge numbers right now but she can make plays when the ball is in her possession offensively, while being an athletic defender. All in all, Rowe is a solid piece. She could be a good role player this Winter season if she can get onto the floor. She proved that this Summer on a few different occasions.     It's easy to see way Ellie Borns of Western Iowa Express 17U AAU and Lewis Central High School is someone that puts up numbers in the scoring category. Her mental awareness on that side of the ball is impressive. She is really good on the fast break in transition with her vision and her ability to convert when she gets to the basket. She is a natural PG, with a SG scoring ability, and a CG's defensive mindset. She isn't afraid to contact but more-so welcomes it whenever she is by the bucket and that leaves opponents second guessing the next time they want to attempt to rough her up with a foul when she is about to score the rock. This was a good AAU campaign for Borns the last six months. Now it's time to take everything she learned by playing with this group and to translate it back to LC this Winter.
