Every summer, the Charlie Hughes Girls Basketball Shootout gives fans, coaches, and scouts an opportunity to see some of Indiana's top talent compete against high-level competition. While many upperclassmen were expected to shine, several members of the Class of 2030 proved they are already capable of making an impact at the varsity level. Their confidence, skill sets, and basketball IQ stood out throughout the event, showing that the future of girls basketball in Indiana is in great hands.

Here are a few freshmen who caught my attention.

If there was one freshman who looked ready to make an immediate impact this season, it was [player_tooltip player_id='1879578' first='Britt' last='Schellhammer']. The freshman guard delivered one of the most impressive performances of the Charlie Hughes Shootout and showed that she is prepared to contribute at a high level from day one.

On the second day of the showcase, Schellhammer caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down an incredible 10 three-pointers over two games. She poured in 25 points in her first game before following it up with 23 points in the second, proving her scoring outburst was no fluke.

While much of the attention has understandably surrounded her older sister, Britt is quickly carving out her own identity. Her confidence never wavered, and she consistently stepped up in big moments. She showed the ability to knock down shots under pressure, create offense when her team needed a basket, and make smart plays with the basketball. Her shooting range forces defenses to extend, but she also displayed the poise and basketball IQ to make the right read when defenders closed out aggressively.

Schellhammer's performance at Charlie Hughes made one thing clear: she is more than ready for the varsity stage. If this showcase is any indication of what's to come, expect [player_tooltip player_id='1879578' first='Britt' last='Schellhammer'] to have one of the most productive freshman seasons in Indiana and quickly become one of the top young guards to watch in the Class of 2030.

It's hard not to notice [player_tooltip player_id='1875989' first='Bryce' last='Webster'] whenever she's on the floor because of the impact she makes on both ends of the court. The freshman guard showcased her versatility throughout the Charlie Hughes Shootout, proving she can influence the game far beyond just putting points on the scoreboard.

Webster has the ability to run the point when needed, displaying good ball-handling skills, court vision, and poise with the basketball. She also showed that she can be an effective scorer, consistently attacking opportunities and knocking down shots throughout the showcase. Her offensive versatility makes her difficult to defend, while her defensive effort and competitiveness allow her to make an impact on the other end of the floor as well.

As one of two freshmen in Carmel's starting lineup, Webster has already earned the trust of the coaching staff. Her all-around game, work ethic, and ability to contribute in multiple ways make her a valuable piece for the Greyhounds. With four years still ahead of her, she has the potential to play a significant role in helping elevate Carmel's girls basketball program and continue its tradition of success.

This was my first opportunity to watch [player_tooltip player_id='1879590' first='Katelyn' last='Wedell'] play, and she certainly did not disappoint. The freshman showcased why she has the potential to become an important piece for a talented Noblesville program.

Wedell's combination of size, length, and versatility immediately stood out. She has the ability to impact the game both inside the paint and on the perimeter, giving the Millers flexibility with how they use her. Around the basket, she uses her length to finish plays and compete on the glass, while her skill set also allows her to step out on the wing and contribute offensively.

For a freshman, Wedell played with confidence and showed flashes of the versatility that should make her a valuable addition for Noblesville this season. As she continues to develop physically and refine her all-around game, she has the tools to become a matchup problem and an impactful contributor for one of Indiana's top programs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1879593' first='Danaja' last='Williams'] | 2029 | Guard

This was my first opportunity to watch [player_tooltip player_id='1879593' first='Danaja' last='Williams'], and she made a strong impression with her performance. The freshman guard showed that she is ready to compete at the varsity level while playing alongside a talented and experienced Pike roster.

Williams displayed a well-rounded offensive game throughout the showcase. She handled the basketball with confidence, made good decisions in the open floor, and consistently attacked the basket with purpose. She also showed the ability to finish through traffic and knocked down perimeter shots when given space, making her a threat from multiple areas of the floor.

For a freshman, Williams played with poise and composure, never looking overwhelmed by the level of competition. She has the skill set to provide quality minutes and valuable depth for a Pike team with high expectations. As she continues to develop and gain varsity experience, expect her role to grow and her impact to become even greater.

[player_tooltip player_id='1247914' first='Journie' last='Johnson'] is another freshman who is already making an impact for a talented and fast-paced Carmel team. I've had the opportunity to watch Journie since her eighth-grade year, especially during the AAU season, and it's been exciting to see her transition to the high school level.

Johnson brings versatility and confidence to the wing position. She has a good feel for the game, moves well without the basketball, and consistently puts herself in position to make winning plays. Offensively, she is a reliable scoring threat who can stretch the floor, attack closeouts, and capitalize on scoring opportunities when they present themselves.

She will be a valuable piece for a Carmel program that continues to compete at a high level. Her ability to contribute on both ends of the floor, combined with her continued development, gives the Greyhounds another talented young player who is capable of making an immediate impact. As she gains more varsity experience, expect Johnson to become an even bigger weapon for Carmel over the next four years.

I had the opportunity to watch [player_tooltip player_id='1306512' first='Rylee' last='Grinstead'] play for the first time at the Charlie Hughes Shootout, and she immediately caught my attention. The Class of 2030 wing showcased an impressive combination of size, length, and skill that allows her to impact the game in a variety of ways.

Grinstead's biggest strength was her ability to consistently shoot the basketball. She displayed a smooth shooting stroke and confidence from the perimeter, making defenses respect her as a scoring threat. Her length on the wing also allows her to shoot over defenders and create matchup problems, while her overall skill set gives her the versatility to contribute in multiple areas.

She has the tools to become an important offensive piece for Eastern Hancock. Her ability to stretch the floor, score efficiently, and continue developing her all-around game should make her a valuable addition to the Royals' lineup. As she gains experience at the varsity level, Rylee is a young prospect with plenty of upside and one to keep an eye on in Indiana's Class of 2030.

I've had the opportunity to watch Quinn play since her seventh-grade season, and her development has been impressive. Over the past few years, she has made significant strides in her overall game, particularly in how she uses her size to her advantage and in becoming a much more consistent perimeter shooter.

One of the biggest improvements has been her ability to stretch the floor with her three-point shooting. She shoots the ball with confidence and has developed into a reliable scoring threat from the outside. Combined with her length and physical tools, she creates matchup problems on both ends of the floor.

As a freshman, Quinn is poised to play valuable minutes for a Bloomington South team looking to build on its recent success. Her versatility, improved skill set, and growing confidence should allow her to make an immediate impact. As she continues to develop, expect her role to expand and her name to become one to watch in Indiana's Class of 2030.
