Northwood Team Camp: 2027 Go to Guards

Northwood Team Camp is an event on my coverage schedule every summer. As a varsity coach and now a Prep Girls Hoops scout, this is my fifth straight year attending camp. Great hospitality and a variety of high school teams from across Michigan keep me coming back. The stars shine, and diamonds in the rough reveal themselves every year. Finding new prospects is a foundational aspect of what we do at Prep Girls Hoops. These six guards were go to players for their teams at camp:    Ella shot the ball confidently from beyond the arc and her aggressiveness stood out at Northwood Team Camp. She used a quick behind the back dribble to change directions, then beat her defender to the basket for a left-handed finish in the lane. Ella looked to attack gaps and earned multiple trips to the free throw line. She's a playmaker in the Gaylord backcourt.     Mack led by example on the defensive end and she delivered an impressive all-around effort for South Lyon East at Northwood Team Camp. She sprinted back and timed up a fast break layup perfectly to block the shot at the rim. Mack sprinted across the paint from the help side to block a layup attempt and zipped an entry pass on a rope for an assist. She used textbook outside hand technique to deflect perimeter passes, picked up multiple steals, and drove hard to the basket to cause a foul. Mack swiped the ball away up top, raced towards the hoop, went up strong against an athletic defender, stuck with the play to secure the offensive rebound, then scored the putback. Macke drove hard down the baseline, used a swift spin move, then finished with a soft touch off the glass. She is a very accurate perimeter threat off the dribble, maintaining excellent balance as she dribbles the ball laterally to create space. Mack buried a couple smooth triples up top off the dribble with a quick release and a defender contesting the shot. She's a playmaker that will make a college very happy on signing day.     Gracyn was a two-way difference maker for Brighton at Northwood Team Camp. She contested shots well to force misses and closed out with a high hand to block a perimeter jumper. Gracyn took the ball hard downhill to the basket for a strong and-one bucket and absorbed contact to score another tough layup. She made a smooth transfer to score a catch and finish in traffic and made the extra pass to get teammates open looks. One of her highlights was a 3/4 court football pass to a sprinting teammate in stride for the assist. She has crafty footwork in the paint and will be a key player for the Bulldogs again this winter.     Brooklynn's active communication, high energy, nonstop motor, and impact as the court general stood out at Northwood Team Camp. She called out switches, talked constantly, used quick crossovers to beat pressure, and picked off passes from the help side. Brooklynn had sharp instincts on the defensive end and her anticipation resulted in multiple steals. She scanned the court with her eyes up and pushed the ball quickly up the court with both hands to create transition offense. Brooklynn contributed as a rebounder and weaved past defenders on her way to the rim. She's a three sport athlete (basketball, volleyball, softball) and is interested in pursuing a degree in pre-med.     Karrah was an effective court general for LakeVille at Northwood Team Camp and her two-way impact stood out during the games. She got the rollers involved on the offensive end and made good decisions with the ball in her hands. Karrah dished out assists inside with good touch and fired crisp passes to the perimeter. She took a DHO straight downhill and used a nice high rip move to finish in traffic. Karrah pushed with pace in transition, used a fake pass euro to move the defender, and transferred to her left to cause a foul. She anticipated a step back jumper on the perimeter and reached in to strip the ball away. Karrah looks ready for a very productive senior year and she is interested in pursuing a degree in orthodontics/dentistry following graduation.     Lexi was a breakout player for Romeo at Northwood Team Camp. Her second gear off the dribble and playmaking on both ends of the court caught my attention. Lexi used a quick jab step to create space, then shifted into high gear to split the gap for a drive by layup. She penetrated the defense several times off the dribble to score layups going full tilt. Lexi absorbed contact to score a tough and-one layup, drained an open three from the wing, and caused turnovers with her fast hands on the defensive end. She scored a clutch layup off two feet late to give her team a late lead and showed no timidity with the ball in her hands. Lexi will be continuing her soccer career at Loyola Chicago following graduation.
