Northwood Team Camp: New Forwards Make Headway

Northwood Team Camp is an event on my coverage schedule every summer. As a varsity coach and now a Prep Girls Hoops scout, this is my fifth straight year attending camp. Great hospitality and a variety of high school teams from across Michigan keep me coming back. The stars shine, and diamonds in the rough reveal themselves every year. Finding new prospects is a foundational aspect of what we do at Prep Girls Hoops. Dozens of new prospects made a great first impression at camp, and these five forwards earned their first write-up:    Brooklynn has 6-foot length, athleticism, and runs the floor like a wing. She's a volleyball, basketball, and track athlete from Lake Fenton who had me asking myself the best question a scout can have: "who's that?" Brooklynn showed confidence shooting from beyond the arc and drained a triple from the wing. She sprinted in to secure offensive rebounds and forced defenders to send her to the free throw line. Brooklynn used good wall-up technique to force misses, battled to deny entry passes into the low post, and pushed the ball up the floor with an extra gear in transition. She can face-up and drive or play with her back to the basket. Brooklynn has great potential as a next-level prospect and basketball is her primary sport.     Kelsi has length, athleticism, and mobility for her size that immediately grabs your attention as a scout. She was very effective in the euro-ball screen continuity offense and has the potential to develop into a stretch four. Kelsi used her length to create steals and deflect passes on the perimeter. She protected the basket and jumped up to block shots inside with great timing. Kelsi protected the ball by keeping it high and finished contested layups in traffic. She ran the floor well, worked hard to get into position to secure multiple offensive rebounds, and forced the defense to put her on the free throw line. Kelsi had a solid showing for LakeVille at Northwood Team Camp and is interested in pursuing a degree in teaching/education.     Katelynn was a 6-footer who made a great first impression at Northwood Team Camp with Romeo. Her size, athletic build, and interior presence stood out on the court. She set good, strong screens on and off the ball to free up teammates to score. Katelynn crashed the offensive glass to score putbacks and protected the ball by keeping it high in traffic. She contributed heavily as a rebounder and finished off two feet around the basket. Katelynn has a ton of next-level upside and will be a frontcourt prospect to follow in the Romeo program.     Lilly made her presence felt for Lutheran North at Northwood Team Camp. Her versatility and ability to contribute inside/outside stood out during games. Lilly has outside range. She buried a smooth wing three and added another long jumper from the corner. Lilly made good reads off the ball and cut backdoor to get high-percentage looks at the basket. She finished well off two feet around the basket and was strong in the paint.     Saycia had a very productive showing for Brighton at Northwood Team Camp. She took the ball hard downhill on a left-handed drive, then scored the and-one layup through contact. Saycia attacked with a quick rip move to get by her defender, made a smooth transfer to her left, and finished the layup. She paused briefly to survey the scene, got the defender off balance, used a spin dribble to create a driving lane, then transferred the ball to her left for another and-one finish. Saycia showed her outside range by sinking a straightaway three and played hard on both ends of the floor. Saycia is looking to pursue a degree in business finance following graduation.
