DMV Freshman Showcase: The Furious Forwards

<p>The Forward position has evolved over the years with athletes dribbling and shooting like a guard who are also tall and physical enough to be just as effective in the paint. Here is my list, highlighting the best Forward play from The DMV Freshman Showcase.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Deep Ball Threat:</h2>   <p>Silky smooth game behind the arc.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Aria has a smooth confident game from behind the arc.</p>   <p>She plays at a pace that seems effortless and can take over with minimal dribbling. A six foot trailer who can shoot from the top of the key whether in transition or triple threat position. Ms. Jones-Mayfield averaged a quiet three-three's a game during her showcase.</p>   <p>Look for Aria to rise to the occasion especially once she starts to put the ball on the floor as she can finish over most once in the paint.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Quiet Assassin:</h2>   <p>Aurelea looks poised to fill the void at St. Mary's.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Aurelea, caught my eye early during 3v3 play where the floor was spaced out. She was in constant movement without the ball, setting picks, and using her knowledge of the game to cut back door.</p>   <p>Cerny, then followed up with better movement during 5v5 action as she rarely stood still, showcasing an array of talent. </p>   <p>Not afraid of contact by rebounding with her height. Then finding herself on the wing receiving the swing pass where she was able to read her defender to either drive baseline or take quality shots over the top.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Best All-Around Game:</h2>   <p>Remember this name.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Brooklyn's on court energy was apparent during full court action. </p>   <p class="text-gray-700">She became creative with the ball especially in the transition, as there were few defenders who took on the challenge of slowing her down. Once crossed half court, Byrd could get to the rim with long strides and three dribbles.</p>   <p>During the first game. She secured the defensive rebound, bolted out the paint, leaving one defender, and putting her opponent's team in a slow rotation to cover. Byrd was able to slice and dice the team in a matter of six dribbles.</p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bounce Back Player of the Year:</h2>   <p>Coming back from a knee injury...Dacota is dedicated to her game.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Dacota showed well during her 5v5 matches. Her early skillset and already college frame shows a long future, on the court.</p>   <p class="text-gray-700">She was able to put some nice ball handling packages together once in the open court. Her determination and physicality makes her difficult to defend in transition.</p>   <p>Her best asset is within the mid range. She can rock you to sleep with a triple threat then shoot over you with her soft touch or back you down to the block, leaving you bruised and second guessing what just happened as she quietly gets back on defense. </p>   <p>Look for Dacota to make more than a little impact at the new look Concordia Prep.</p>
