Houston Freshman: Putting the City on Notice

Jumping back into the action and starting with the class of 2030! I've been long awaiting to see some of these players in high school jerseys. Several players in this class have the potential to finish among the best in Texas, while others have the tools to become nationally recognized prospects. Although it's still very early, these are a few of my preseason picks to make an immediate impact on their varsity programs.   This is an intentionally early look at an intriguing Houston freshman class, and I'm excited to see how these projections hold up as the high school season unfolds. Lee continues to elevate her game and put on a show this summer on the EYBL circuit. The handles, mid range jumper, court vision, and ability to make everyone on the floor better- not to mention she's an incredible defender- the list goes on for Lee. Before entering high school she's received offers from a number of SEC, Big XII schools and many more. Lee is a must watch player and is about to make a serious splash embarking on her high school campaign.     I first spotted Mingo a few years ago, and what's been incredible to watch is her immense growth in such a short period of time. I've watched her take leaps and bounds in improving her footwork and shooting form. Mingo has always had strength to pair with size, but she's becoming a more all around player with great body control and a shooter's touch. She's sure to put the east side of Houston on notice, and boost North Shore's post season chances.     In May, I noted Cunningham as one of the players to see during the live evaluation periods (read here), and she absolutely did not disappoint picking up a few offers over the summer. With raw athleticism and confidence playing all around the perimeter, Cunningham is sure to bring an undeniable surge to Shadow Creek.     Earnest was simply unstoppable in the Spring Branch/ Memorial area during her final middle school campaign. She is a lights out shooter that will make you do a double take and note her range. Beyond her shooting ability, she does a nice job of creating space off the bounce to shoot the midrange jumper over smaller defenders.     Williams is another freshman I've been looking forward to seeing in UIL play. She's a gametime competitor and her stamina, amongst other factors, allows her to impact both ends of the floor for extended stretches. Beyond being a strong scorer, Williams is an impact player that coaches need the floor because she makes the offense flow by making connecting passes and uses her athleticism to soar in the passing lanes for steals to turn defense to offense.
