PGH Illinois Freshman Showcase: Team 7 Recap

<!-- wp:heading {"level":3} --> <h3 class="wp-block-heading">With over 70 players in the gym, this year's Freshman Showcase gave me a chance to get an early look at a group of young prospects. At this stage, it's less about being a finished product and more about the foundation that's already in there. Here is the recap of what I saw from the players on Team 7.</h3> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1877698' first='Kori' last='Thompson'] (#71)</strong> - <em>Had to leave early due to injury, but major props to her for sticking it out during the 3v3. A lot of heart was shown, and that for sure did not go unnoticed.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1810945' first='Avery' last='Faso'] (#81)</strong> - <em>Active and in constant motion, Faso found her way to the ball on almost every possession and showed the ability to make plays with the ball as well.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1859608' first='Caylee' last='Cossman'] (#84</strong>) - <em>Lengthy enough to get to her spots quickly, and on the defensive end, that length showed as well. She also came away with some big rebounds.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1224522' first='Ruby' last='Beam'] (#89</strong>) <em>- A strong amount of skill is there for Ruby, and the footwork she shows is sharp. She has the length to defend on the perimeter and in the post if the possession calls for it. She can be a legit two way standout, and we'll hear more about her as time goes on. Tremendous upside.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='874667' first='Ameenah' last='Muhammad'] (#95)</strong> - <em>There's a high-energy feel to how Ameenah approaches the game, and a lot of that comes from her overall skill. She is quick, active, and does not seem to have an off button. On both ends of the floor, this kid is a problem. Strong potential.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Karina Bonnet (#110)</strong> - <em>Karina plays the game with a strong amount of toughness, and when it comes to rim running, she knows what angles to take. She has a good feel around the rim too, and can finish even through a lot of contact.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='887013' first='Jalexa' last='Rodriguez']</strong> (#141) -<em> The handles are there, and the ability to get to a shot is present, too. A player to definitely keep an eye on over the next couple of years. </em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1781320' first='Scarlett' last='Mathey'] (#148)</strong> -<em> Mathey uses her stature to her advantage and does not mind when the physicality is there. She plays strong around the rim, holds her ground well, and can make things tough when she is in position.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1880931' first='Lachlan' last='Callahan'] #115 </strong>- <em>Most of her impact came on the boards, and her strength is her effort. She has some solid feel around the rim as well when it comes to scoring. As she continues to develop, she has the potential to be an impactful player.</em></li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list -->
