Freshman 3-on-3: The Details Are in the Difference-Makers

While some players naturally grab attention with scoring bursts or athletic plays, others separate themselves through the little things that consistently lead to winning possessions. From timely cuts and smart positioning to defensive instincts, court vision, and playing with purpose, these are the details that stood out. Here are the difference-makers who showed that you don't always have to be the loudest player on the floor to make an impression.    Estrada's raw athleticism was hard for the opposition to contact in the halfcourt setting. She attacks the basket fearlessly by going right into defenders' chests and using her athleticism to elevate and get a precise shot off without charging into the defender. Creating offense is no issue for Estrada as she showed the ability to create offense through physicality and explosiveness.     Wright's game in the 3-on-3 series proved that the little things often make a big difference. Wright was constantly moving without the ball and by doing so she was able to score easy buckets by finding the open space for a quick mid range. She stayed active on the boards and was able to earn putback buckets. She understood how to set screens and roll to open space.     Made several great backdoor cuts and consistently found ways to get herself open by cycling around her defender and changing her positioning. She showed a good understanding of how to move without the ball and was active in finding open space rather than standing in one spot. When she caught the ball in traffic, she did a nice job using her body to protect it and create separation from her defender. Showed good touch and patience around the basket, using timely up-and-under moves to get her shot off. Her ability to play off two feet, keep her defender on her back, and create space helped her generate quality scoring opportunities throughout the game.     Charles has a strong inside presence. She does a good job establishing position and playing through contact. Showed good patience in the post and used a strong pivot foot to create separation from her defender and get her shot off. Did a nice job keeping her balance and staying composed once she caught the ball, allowing her to find scoring opportunities around the basket. Her strength and footwork make her a tough matchup in the paint.     Zurtia enters her freshman year with basketball wisdom beyond her years. She's polished player that is already showing a strong understanding of pace and body control and this maturity level is the "wisdom" that sets her apart. With a smooth handle, she does a nice job staying under control while creating opportunities for herself and her teammates. Zurita is comfortable shooting from the perimeter and shows a consistent elevation when shooting. Her combination of poise, skill, and feel allows her to make plays without forcing the action.
