Whether you like it or not, transfers are now a major part of high school sports. Families move, athletes enter academic programs, and some players simply seek better competition. Regardless of the reason, Hampton Roads has seen plenty of movement this offseason. Several players will enter new programs with something to prove. However, a new school also brings new expectations, systems, teammates, and roles. That adjustment is often just as important as the talent itself. From a scouting perspective, I want to see how these players fit, compete, and impact winning. More importantly, I want to see whether their games translate into their new environments. With that in mind, here are a few Hampton Roads transfers I will be watching closely this season.

Transferring from Indian River to Landstown, Eaton steps into a talented backcourt where every minute will matter. Last season, she played as a ball-dominant left-handed scorer who consistently attacked off the dribble. She also showed the ability to disrupt opposing guards and defend effectively in the half court. However, her role at Landstown may require a different approach. Eaton will likely be asked to facilitate more and rely less on constant downhill attacks. Fortunately, she has the court vision and passing ability needed to make that transition. She reads traffic well and can find teammates in tight spaces. Additionally, her experience should bring some stability to a relatively young roster. Eaton can defend, organize possessions, and create opportunities without always needing to score. If she embraces that role, this transfer could help round out her game even further.

The Coastal Carolina commit will spend her senior season at Oak Hill while competing against a national schedule. That move should give Herbert valuable opportunities to expand her game before making the jump to Division I basketball. Primarily a slasher, Herbert has already shown the athleticism to attack gaps and finish in transition. Additionally, she rebounds well and can defend her position effectively. She also possesses solid ball-handling ability for a player at her position. However, the next step will be becoming more comfortable operating from the wing. Playing at Oak Hill should give Herbert more chances to face the basket and create within different offensive situations. Furthermore, the national schedule should challenge her decision-making, consistency, and overall versatility. This transfer could provide valuable preparation before Herbert begins her college career at Coastal Carolina.

Brehon will spend her final high school season at Kings Fork, where she should develop further as a true point guard. In the past, she established herself as a consistent threat from beyond the arc. However, this season should provide opportunities to expand her responsibilities beyond scoring. Brehon is looking to become a traditional floor general who can organize and run an offense efficiently. Additionally, she has shown the ability to impact games with her defense. That should fit well within a Kings Fork backcourt known for applying relentless pressure. Her ability to defend opposing ballhandlers could make her a valuable piece within that system. Meanwhile, continued growth as a facilitator could make her game more complete. A strong senior season should attract college programs searching for a reliable and well-rounded guard.

Tynes transfers from Churchland to Catholic, joining a loaded roster filled with Division I prospects. As a long guard, she brings positional versatility to an already crowded backcourt. Tynes has the tools to play anywhere from the one through three positions. However, minutes will be earned in a program with considerable talent and depth. Even so, her upside remains high. She has already shown a natural feel for the game and composure under pressure. Additionally, her versatility should allow her to develop within multiple roles. With three high school seasons remaining, this move could become an important step in her development. Catholic should challenge Tynes to become more complete on both ends of the floor. If that growth continues, she could emerge as a coveted prospect in the 2029 class.

From new roles to tougher competition, these transfers will be worth watching as they adjust, develop, and shape the upcoming season. A season that for all of them is pivotal to their continued growth and development.
