The Florida Expo: Team 6 Evaluations

Guards attacked the rim, pushed the ball in transition, and looked for teammates when the defense closed in. The group also showed perimeter shooting. On defense, pressure on the ball, steals, and hustle plays gave Team 6 various ways to make an impact.    Garcia brought quickness and aggression to the Expo. She pressured ball handlers up top, forced turnovers that led to fast breaks and got back on defense to create more turnovers. Offensively, she handled the ball and attacked the rim regardless of the defense. On one drive, she challenged a much taller center; after missing, she immediately chased down the play from behind and nearly made a steal. Her defensive effort and hustle stood out most at the showcase.     Soto's speed, explosiveness, and ball-handling stood out throughout the Expo. Her speed is at an elite level, and her game is far more advanced than just her speed. She has the ability to play with control and use her speed in stop-and-start situations. During one sequence, she came off a screen at the top of the key and drove to the basket, showing creativity and the ability to finish despite her size. She kept her head up to find teammates, showed a jump shot, and played tough defense. When a defender took the wrong angle or gambled against her, Soto used her handle and speed to get to the rim and score. Soto was one of the fastest players at the event. She used it as a weapon and left a lasting impression.     Colten ran the floor well, made good passes, and knocked down three-pointers. Another good shot was noted later in the game. She did a good job of running the floor and getting to her shots and has the confidence to take the shot.   Colten has a nice three-point stroke. On offense, Colton attacked the rim after coming off of pick-and-rolls. She was savvy getting to the rim in transition as well.     Figueroa played a team role and showed great aggressiveness on defense. She attacked the ball handler for a steal, played in the passing lane well on another possession, and made a left-handed pass to a teammate after a takeaway. She also used a screen to create a shot. Although she did not score much in the action observed, her decision-making showed ball IQ and an understanding of the game.     Rauscher played within the flow of the offense and showed how comfortable she was handling the ball. She passed to teammates, displayed good court vision, and got downhill several times. On one play, she made a strong left-handed drive to the rim, although the shot did not fall, showing she can attack in either direction. She also showed a nice pull-up jumper. Rauscher was unselfish without being passive, making a move when the opportunity presented itself. Rauscher handled the ball well, saw the floor, and passed to teammates while playing within the offense.     Hallas kept good spacing, pursued rebounds, and led a break with a pass that set up a score. She handled the ball well, saw the floor, and anticipated plays in advance. On one pick-and-roll, she made the right pass, although the teammate did not roll hard enough to receive it. On another drive, Hallas attacked the rim before dishing to a teammate for a potential score. She continued to impress as a playmaker who usually made the right decision with the ball in her hands.     [player_tooltip player_id='1293113' first='Ellie' last='Mittias'] showed offensive savvy by drifting into open space and making herself available at the right time. She looked for back cuts, handled the ball, got into the midrange for a pull-up jumper, and found open teammates off the dribble in transition. She also brought the hustle and energy on the defensive side of the ball. When her point guard was in trouble, Mintas recognized when to help by presenting herself for the ball or setting a screen to free her teammate. Her ball IQ was evident. She plays the game between her ears as well.     Deitch was impressive throughout the game. When the defense gave her an opening, she attacked without hesitation, looking to score or draw a foul. She worked hard defending the ball and looked for opportunities to create a turnover. After one drive did not produce a basket, she followed the play and got another shot. Deitch's aggressiveness on offense was impressive. She was one of the most aggressive drivers at the Expo.     LeTennier made good moves toward the basket, finished in transition, and showed her offensive versatility with her ability to shoot the ball from the midrange area and from behind the three-point line. Her speed, decision-making, athleticism, and feel for the game drew attention throughout the contest. LeTennier brought a very high ball IQ to the Expo. She is going to be a welcome addition to Cardinal Mooney this upcoming season.
