It's the beginning of October, which means the Fall rankings updates throughout the site are winding down. This week we will release the updated list of 2029 prospects, but I would like to turn my attention to the small forwards in this article. Below is a list of those prospects with "small forward" listed as their primary position, followed by some attention for the newcomers, and a look at a couple of ladies who are on the rise.

Avalee is looking to carve out a niche this season for a young but reloading Center Grove squad. She has broad shoulders and good strength, some length, and she's a solid all-around athlete in most directions. She also possesses skill at all three levels, so she can play around the perimeter comfortably, but she isn't afraid of contact when rebounding/defending inside either. While she didn't see any Varsity action last Winter, she did see a little bit throughout June this year. On a team short on size, she could provide some interior play.

South Bend St. Joe has been building up its talent base once again over the past couple of years, and Reese brings solid height, some skill, and a nice all-around athleticism as a 3-sport athlete. She saw action in 13 games as a Freshman and could find an expanded role this Winter. She has some touch outside, but she can also put it on the floor a little and push it in transition or attack in the halfcourt. Her best days are definitely out in front of her, but she could help with depth this season, as the Indians look to be improved.

After watching Gabby in July and then again at our PGH Indiana Sophomore Showcase, she has grown and developed her game as much as anyone in the last calendar year. She is a long, wiry-strong, fluidly athletic, and smooth wing prospect. She glides around the floor, she can attack, turn the corner, and get downhill, plus she has touch outside. She has a lot of defensive potential as well, but I think there's still something to unlock there, and as she gets stronger, she's too athletic to not rebound at a high level. I'd expect that to come, too.

While Makenzie may not have moved up numerically in the rankings, her stock is rising. She has tremendous length and potential to become a versatile 2-way player. She is a nice all-around athlete, she moves well in most directions, and she plays with a good motor. What I like most is, she doesn't need the ball to be effective. She will find ways to produce, whether that's on the boards, finding open teammates, or locking someone up. But she does have the ability to slice to the basket pretty effortlessly, and she can knock down a rhythm jumper.
