BRADSHAW - River View Raiders' head coach Gehrig Justice and his team fell victim to the economic qualifier being permanently removed from the West Virginia Secondary School Activities competitive balance formula to determine the proper classification for each of West Virginia's high schools. The economic qualifier used county/local economic health data to slightly lower the classification of schools in economically disadvantaged areas. Forced to play up in Class AA from Class A, the Raiders started out the season 3-6. Despite the early season struggles, the Raiders rebounded to win 11 of their next 13 games before they fell to Wyoming East in the Class AA Region III tournament. Here are the girls who have told Justice they would like to play in college or who Justice thinks could play in college:

Kennedy can help an NCAA Division II program. Immediately. She has my full confidence. Her bag is filled with the offensive skill set, high basketball IQ, and willingness to work that will see her make it on to the court wherever she ends up. This slasher has a great mid-range game, and she can shoot the 3, if need be. Kennedy has several offers, the prevailing feeling is Bluefield, Va. may be her preferred destination. I can see her as a 2 or 3 at the next level.

Hatfield knows how to score the basketball. Indubitably. Her strong suit is her catch-and-shoot game. Her shot always looks good when it leaves her hand. If she misses a shot, it is front or back iron. She has been the best 3-point shooter on the Raiders during her stay on the team. She covers a lot for ground when she moves down the court. Isn't afraid to face a 2-on-3 fast break and get to the rim. On defense, she would help a group that runs a 2-3 zone scheme due to her length and ability to move on the court. Her basketball IQ is solid. She will play at the 3-spot this year for the Raiders. If she would like to play in college, I would like to see her work on her ball-handling and keeping her dribble lower to the ground. She will also need to get used to moving without the basketball. Taking advantage of cuts and screens at the next level. She is a solid NAIA or low NCAA Division II player.

Perkins is an athlete. That is her bread and butter. Quite simply. Thanks to her athleticism, her strength is her defensive game. Oh yes. She would be right at home in a 2-3 zone, 1-3-1 press, man-to-man or zone. She reliably guards a team's best player. Her drawback? Her offensive game is limited. She does not want the ball in her hands, all the time. She will make her living at the next level as an athletic defender, who will have to develop more confidence in her offensive bag. She will score that basketball if her coaches ask her to.

Hess has shown flashes of potential as she enters her freshman season at high school. She has shown an ability to get to the rim. She's as strong as an ox. Her shot mechanics look good with a tight elbow and nice wrist flick. We will see what the future holds for this young lady. She will see some playing time as a sixth lady for the Raiders.

Evaluations are normally subscriber-only but when an athlete subscribes, theirs becomes free for all readers.
Subscribing doesn't change who the Scout covers, it changes who gets to see it.
