Del Rio has earned the trust of her coach and teammates and now entering her sophomore season is starting to get a bigger role with the Lancers. Del Rio plays hard. She moves effectively around the floor creating an opportunity for herself or her teammates. Good on ball defender and plays great in transition. great awareness. She came up big for the Lancers knocking down a three to regain the lead with 3 minutes left which they held onto till the last 20 seconds of the game. Then Kayla struck again knocking down another three to seal the win. The incoming sophomore coming up clutch to help the Lancers advance in their Section 7 Bracket.

Kayla Del Rio turned in a strong performance at the Showcase. The freshman from Salpointe has tremendous upside to her game. She has been working very hard on her skills as well as her footwork and agility for several years. She is a very tough competitor that is cool under pressure and not afraid of the spotlight. Shooting is her strength, as she can shoot well from deep and in the mid-range. She is a very high IQ player that will develop into a productive contributor for the Lancers for the next 4 years.

Del Rio is a point guard who got to the rack quickly and often. She is the type of guard who will get in there and battle and do the little things to win. She also showed the ability to hit the three pointers when needed.

Kayla Del Rio has a reputation in Southern Arizona basketball circles as a highly driven and motivated player that will do whatever it takes to establish herself as a dominant player. She will definitely see some Varsity minutes a s a freshman for Salpointe. She is a highly skilled ball handler that can see the floor well and distribute to open teammates with consistency. She is a very good shooter especially from the 3-point line. She is a solid defender and can play multiple positions. She will be one of the best to come out of Salpointe when it’s all said and done.
