Team Previews- Maumee Valley Country Day

One of the fastest rising programs in Northwest Ohio will be Maumee Valley, one of the top D7 teams in Ohio this season. They have the weapons to make some noise this season as their goals include making a trip to the state Final four in Dayton. They have three next-level players and two more working toward that aspiration.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Heading into her sophomore season, Iyonna is going to be major factor in the Maumee Valley success this season. She played up in the 2027 age group this summer and had a lot of success. She learned how to create for others and focused on locking in with her defense. Can pick up and defend 94-feet in various defenses. Can also defend the post if needed. Her a good basketball IQ for her age. Is a scoring point guard, consistent with her three-point shot. Good leadership and shows confidence in her game. Knows when to drive and when to launch the perimeter shots. Shows good maturity in her game.

Her game just seems to get better and better. Will likely play 2-guard in college. Good strength and pivot game makes her tough to defend in the post. Good pick and roll player showing a lot of improvement in that aspect of the game. Her left hand finishes are very solid at the rim. One thing she does better is being a quicker catch-and-shoot player from the perimeter. Super athletic and able to create.

Sani is often put on the opposing teams top player with her lockdown defense. She is effective on both ends of the court as she has a deadly three-point shot. Drawing attention from coaches at the next level as her game continues to improve. Very active in her school, she is confident with her tools on the court. Solid passer, can drive and dish for the easy shot. Does the little things for her team, a player with NAIA and D3 offers and as her game continues to get better, the offers will continue to come in.

Very naturally talented, Kapree transfered in from Toledo Notre Dame, She is so naturally talented and her defense is something to take note of. Long, lean and fast, she has the ability to drive well to the rim, just needs to finish on her floater a bit better. Can shoot the three and working on that aspect. She will be a difference maker for Maumee Valley. A player continuing to work.

SLEEPER TO WATCH

Emma is a lights out three-point shooter, making her a natural threat in their offense. Her consistency from behind the arc will be a key in the success of this team. She knows her role on this team. Another thing she can do well is bring the ball up the floor, while at the other end her defense has really amplified her overall contribution. She has really worked hard over the summer and will be a factor for this squad.
