Team Previews- Wayne

One of the traditionally strong teams in the Greater Western Ohio Conference looks to make another good run this season as Wayne prepares for the gauntlet that is their tough conference. Coach Jamar Shakelford brings back a solid D1 guard and a group of players ready to challenge for the top of the league.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Goddard is a very solid D1 prospect with multiple offers from P4 and mid-major and looks to be a very key part in the Wayne success. She is a guard who will lead the way for Wayne. She scores the ball very well with the ability to distribute with good court vision. Able to defend at a high level, guard anyone on the perimeter and go 94-feet with constant pressure. Can get in the passing lanes and forces turnovers.

MaKya looks to be a senior leader this season for the Warriors from the point guard spot. Handles the ball well, and can defend at a high level. Expect her to step into a bigger role this season with the loss of seniors and a transfer out, will be counted to score and be a solid leader for Wayne.

Another returning player from last season, Amaiya can be a matchup nightmare, able to play around the rim and control the boards, but also can play point forward for them as well. Very high IQ with good court vision and passes the ball very well. Can guard multiple positions and is hoping to step into a really big role this season at Wayne. She was in the gym a lot in the summer putting in extra work and looks to be more dedicated this season. Being counted on for consistency.

Has been around the program and understands what the programs goals are. She can be a vocal leader by example and has an opportunity to be one of the best shooters in the gym. Over the summer, she has put in the time to become a better player. She knows she has a chance to make a bigger impact after putting in the extra work in the summer.

SLEEPER TO WATCH

McKenna makes her debut this season as a player who should be able to make an impact in the program with her defensive effort. She is a good shot blocker and her court effort should carry her to some early success. Played with Brandie Hoskins in the summer. With the ball, she needs to be able to knock down the open shots and rebound at a high level.
