I was really impressed with Dacota. She is a tall, long, and athletic guard. Dacota, an All-Region selection from last season, averaged 9.2 points per game and 5.1 assists as a sophomore. She is a physical presence in Valley's defense and had a couple of really great blocks. She is able to plug up driving lanes with her size. She shoots the ball well, making multiple 3 pointers. She also is crafty getting to the rim. Look for Dacota to once again be an All-Region selection this season.

Greta is tremendous defensively and critical to Valley City's success. Her height and length make it extremely difficult for opponents. She plays the top of their full-court press and is an absolute menace in that position. She makes reversal passes difficult and deflects a lot of passes. She creates so many turnovers for her team with her anticipation and defensive IQ. Her stats might not be as impressive by the end of the game as some of her teammates, but she is incredible in her role to help her team win.

Skye is new to the varsity scene as freshman. She is a 5'11 post and someone who immediately caught my eye. I was really impressed with how well she moves and her body control. She is able to use her strength to leverage opponents and get into great rebounding position. When she gets an offensive rebound, she does a great job of keeping the ball high above her head and going back up for a layup. Skye is a freshman to keep an eye on as she progresses throughout high school.

Sophia is a quick guard who has good fundamentals. She does a nice job of spacing the floor on the offensive end and is able to knock down the three, making 2 against Valley City. She has a good looking shot and I expect her to be a solid shooting option for Oak Grove. I liked how she played defensively, doing a nice job of jumping to the ball and being in correct help side defense. She also did a nice job of closing out with high hands and being in backside help when her teammate was fronting the post.

Linden is a spark plug off the bench and was responsible for all of Oak Grove's first quarter points. She had two great passes in the press break that led to layups and also a steal that led to a 3 point make. I liked how hard she played and her half court defense. She was excellent at stunting drives and closing out back to her girl. Linden is only a sophomore and I anticipate her continuing to play a pivotal role for the Grovers going forward.

Hailey is a solid post who impressed me with the small details of her game. She kept space on drives and then put herself back into great offensive rebounding position. She kept a lot of plays alive by either offensive rebounding the ball or tipping it to teammates. She was effective in the press break finishing a handful of layups. Hailey also did a very nice job of positioning herself defensively in the post and preventing easy baskets for Valley City.

Valley City is really impressive defensively and opponents will have a tough time scoring points on them in the half-court. Oak Grove scored most of their points off of Valley's turnovers or on 2nd chance scoring opportunities. Region 1 just keeps getting more and more interesting as the season progresses.
