AVCTL/GWAL Challenge Day 3 Standouts, Part 3

This post wraps up my three part series on standouts from the AVCTL/GWAL Basketball Challenge held at Park City Arena. Included in it are reports on players who especially stood out from the final game of the day, Derby versus Wichita Southeast. <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/2025/01/avctl-gwal-challenge-day-3-standouts-part-1/">Part 1</a> and part 2 cover players from the day's two previous games.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Derby</h2>    Askew set the tone of game against Wichita Southeast right away with a smooth, three point make she shot with elevation and arch. Her athleticism, three level scoring, hops and quickness on both ends were consistently seen as she racked up 31 points including several three pointers. Against strong full- and half-court pressure she handled with speed and effectively used her size to create on the move.     Lansang is a college ready guard with good skills and strong build. She showed good speed and athleticism offensively and her strength and quickness shined on the other. She showed range on her three ball and passing ability to generate smooth assists. Lansang ran the point, working against the quick and fast Wichita Southeast guards.     Dinsmore is a long SF/PF with a very mature game. She ran lanes well in transition, slid into position, shot a nice jumper and used her length and headiness effectively rebounding. Size was something Wichita Southeast did not match up well with and Dinsmore, with her ball and passing skills, made life difficult for anybody matched up with her. A very good all-around game.     The Panthers are very deep at the guard spot and none are at the level of speed with the ball as Rickords. The Cowley Community College commit showed senior experience all game, showing she just knows where to go with the ball even if it is to blow the doors off a defender. A good distributer with good vision on the other end her quick hands and speed serve her well to generate turnovers.      <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wichita Southeast</h2>    As deep as Derby is at guard, and despite giving up the first 21 points of the game, there was not anyone who could handle the slightly built Webb. Her handles are strong and she has good speed but what sets it all up is her threat as a shooter. Quick release, 30 foot range and she buried at least 6 of them.     Allen started the game at the point with Webb at the two but only when they switched positions was she able to generate results with her handles and aggressiveness. Defensively she showed quick hands and is a willing defender, including defending post players because she has the stature to compete. With the number of talented, speedy, young guards in the GWAL getting a step quicker laterally will serve her well in the years ahead.     For a team with little size Marcy played the forward in addition to on the wing. She used her frame and reach well to challenge shots and grab boards. She was especially effective chasing down offensive ones. Marcy runs well and competed effectively against the longer and athletic Derby posts in transition. At the 3/4 spot Marcy will be one to watch.     Coming off the bench for the Buffaloes Williams showed speed and scoring to the team. I liked her headiness in the rebounding department, she snagged at least a half dozen defensive boards. Knocking down a three showed her range. She also generated a couple assists and steals.
