Yesterday, at the Tucker Theatre at MTSU, the Mr. and Miss Tennessee Basketball winners were announced. The winners of this award were chosen based on their regular season body of work. Though some people had stellar postseasons, this award goes to those who stood out the most before tournament play.

Media personalities from different newspaper outlets selected the finalists in each classification ( I have no dog in the race). Three nominees were chosen from a pool of student-athletes nominated by media members and coaches around the state. The kids were brought up on stage with the hopes of their names being called. As the announcements for each class were being made, kids bowed their heads in anticipation of what was to happen next. Each of these finalists had a sensational season. Though there could only be one winner per class, each and every one of these student-athletes had a phenomenal year.

Without further ado, here are the nominees and winners from each classification.

Class 1A Finalists

Laila Downs-Darden-McEwen

Elle Graham- Moore Co.

[player_tooltip player_id='409014' first='Blair' last='Baugus']- Wayne Co.

The winner of the Class 1A is…..

No stranger to this award, this sensational talent won it last year. Blair will be suiting up for MTSU this upcoming fall and I know the Blue Raider faithful can't wait to have her on campus. This talented kid has had a stellar high school career where she has terrorized opponents throughout her four years. She finished her career with 2,234 points, 1,047 rebounds, 205 blocks, and 278 steals. Numbers like this scream next-level athlete. Her list of accolades is a mile long, but her style of play is tremendous. She got it done nightly almost averaging close to a double-double in each contest. Blessed with size and length, she was big-time for her club as she was the X factor for them. With an amazing work ethic, she set the tone for every game and established her presence on the floor. Look for her to continue to grow at the next level and be a solid fit for the Lady Blue Raiders program.

Class 2A Finalists

Maddy Gray- Westview

[player_tooltip player_id='409003' first='Ally' last='Weathers'] - Loretto

[player_tooltip player_id='409633' first='Karina' last='Bystry']- McMinn Central

The winner of the Class 2A is…

The Northern Kentucky signee will leave her school as the All-Time leading scorer. She averaged 27ppg, 8 rpg, 3 asp, 4 spg, and 2 bpg. She is the complete total package as her body of work elevated those around her. She got after it night in and night out. Scoring it from all 3 levels, her ability to put the ball in the net ranks as one of the top kids in the state. Brings a workmanlike mentality to the floor, as soon as the ball tipped off, she was the conductor on the floor. Her team fed off her energy and opponents struggled to slow her down. This kid is a phenomenal talent who will do great things at the next level.

Class 3A Finalists

[player_tooltip player_id='409042' first='Jaidynn' last='Askins']- Jackson South Side

Joya Crawford- Dyersburg

[player_tooltip player_id='810476' first='Carsyn' last='Swaney']- Heritage

The winner of the 3A class is…

This kid has done nothing but work her tail off. Putting in countless unforeseen hours in the gym, she has risen and molded herself into a sensational ball player. Her body of work is tremendous as she can score it from multiple spots on the floor. Blessed with size and length, she poses as a threat on both ends of the floor. I enjoyed watching her ability to be aggressive and attack downhill. It was like a freight train moving through the night. Defensively, she got steals, rebounds, and blocked shots. She's going to be a beast at the next level for sure.

Class 4A Finalists

[player_tooltip player_id='513228' first='Kimora' last='Fields']- Bradley Central

[player_tooltip player_id='409017' first='Ella' last='Ryan'] - Brentwood

[player_tooltip player_id='513233' first='Natalya' last='Hodge']- Bearden

The winner of the 4A class is…

This talented kid has been getting it done ever since her freshman year. She brings that “dawg” mentality to the floor as she competes on both ends of the floor. She is physically strong and goes through the opposition on her way to finishing at the rim. This year she added more tools to her tool belt as she showed well from the outside and her face-up game from the mid-range got even stronger. Along with dominating the paint, she was big time on the boards on both ends. Kimora is a big-time X-factor and would be that way on any club. Schools are clamoring for her signature. She has one more year of school before she hits the next level. Sensational talent with a very bright future.

Division ll-A finalists

Dasha Biriuk- Webb Bell

Haylen Ayers- USJ

[player_tooltip player_id='821765' first='Maddie' last='Braden'] - CAK

The winner of the Division ll-A is…

This young stud is one of the best ballplayers not only in her class, but in the state of Tennessee. Voted Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and a USA basketball participant, Haylen holds offers from schools such as Tennessee, Texas, and UConn, along with many more. A dynamic kid who has an all-around game. She is a three-level scoring threat who can dominate a game. If you thought her offensive game was tough, well her defensive game is up there as well. This kid is phenomenal at using her size, speed, and quickness to create chaos. A stellar athlete who is only in year two of terrorizing these Tennessee opponents.

Division ll-AA finalist

[player_tooltip player_id='409105' first='Tyler' last='Jones']- Hutchison

[player_tooltip player_id='513227' first='Meeyah' last='Green']- Knoxville Webb

Kamora “Mo Mo” Moore- Chattanooga Christian

The winner of the Division ll-AA is ….

The Clemson commit is one tough guard to handle. With her ability to change pace, attack gaps, and shoots from the arc at a high clip, she is lethal from multiple spots on the floor. She has amazing court awareness, where her high basketball I.Q. Kicks in and she is able to adjust to pressurize situations. Pull up here. Kick there. Reset. She recognizes and exploits defenses like no other. She gets after it on defense as well. A tremendous kid who is still fine-tuning her game to an even higher level.

Yesterday, at the Tucker Theatre at MTSU, the Mr. and Miss Tennessee Basketball winners were announced. The winners of this award were chosen based on their regular season body of work. Though some people had stellar postseasons, this award goes to those who stood out the most before tournament play.
