Mackenzie Wurm-6’3 P (Allen) if you ever watched The Wire, the greatest show ever not to win an award, one classic line was “A doover” and I truly hate do-overs especially if it isn’t my fault but the good thing is that she is a 2021. Wurm is long, athletic has good footwork but I went back to Pass Tha Ball’s Hoop A Holics Camp in 2014 just because she has definitely improved on both ends, finished strong after contact
Kylie Loftis-6’0 P (Arlington Martin) not quite sure how I missed her, she’s at the magic number, that’s 6’0 and she’s already signed with Virginia Commonwealth University. When you add long and athletic to the magic number, you create options and her Warriors squad definitely needed them as they made it to the championship game. Scores inside and facing the basket rebounds and defends
Elyssa ColemanElyssa Coleman-6’3 P (Atascocita) I have watched this young lady go from a raw youngster on a team with plays called Madonna and Beyonce to becoming a poised and polished player that’s showing she’s definitely a hit as well signing with Texas. You can’t teach effort, size either, but it helps if you can play. She’s showing power in the paint, not being denied and scoring virtually at will at times. Good timing for blocks, rebounds, runs the floor
Shira Patton
Shira Patton-5’9 F (Cy Ranch) already signed with Northern Arizona she, Shadiya Thomas (Air Force) and Riane Burton (Cincinnati) have just amazed me over the years as they all bring a variety of skills that have them heading on to the next level but Patton defying gravity on her jumper just never gets old. Well not just the jumper as she continues to elevate around the basket for baskets
Leila Patel-5’10 G (Frisco Centennial) first look was definitely a good one on the junior because she has good size, agility, athleticism and showed she could do multiple things including “out the ball in the basket” a variety of ways. Nice moves in the paint where she finished, even after contact and hit the midrange consistently. Then she showed the long ball, yeah I see ya
Emily Holland-5’7 G (Mansfield) the first thing that impressed me was her ability to create her shot, that is a very good tool to have especially when you combine it with a pull-up jumper, which she did. Mid to long range is definitely there, attacking the basket from a variety of angles as well but she also does a good job of seeing the floor
Coniah Cooley-5’5 G (Mansfield Legacy) not sure if the junior is related to Dr. Denton but that first step can definitely raise the heart rate. She’s athletic and brings so much energy that she’s, well everywhere and having a knack for being in the right place at the right times was huge and I’m just wondering if Harmoni Turner (Harvard) was healthy, this team would create a whole lot of problems come playoff time
Maiya Stovall-G (Richland) the junior was another pleasant surprise as she showed a variety of things such as pressure defense baseline to baseline as well as attack the basket and finish strong, after contact. She also rebounded but her mindset of “keep coming at you” just still plays in my head
Kayla James-5’5 G (South Grand Prairie) this team is filled with a whole lot of athletic guards that can trap, defend in a “hunnid” and shoot the 3. One of my colleagues disagreed about athleticism on the team and this is why I do my own thing because, well I don’t care what others think. James sees the floor, attacks the basket and plays the passing lane, oh yeah, she too can shoot the 3
Tamia Jones-5’7 G (The Colony) I guess it’s only fitting I close out the story with the SMU signee that closes out games consistently with her jumper. The thing about her game is that she just brings it on both ends of the court, her defense is strong and she anticipates well which leads to steals and baskets but that jumper while being defended as well as her ability to get to the basket and score always stands out
