One of my favorite weekends of the year, the event showcased several great matchups and dozens of intriguing prospects. Here are some of my top Stockrisers from the Showcase:
Barrington Freshman Sophie Swanson continues to make her name known with yet another outstanding performance against Plainfield Central, putting up 26 points for the game. The 5’10” Combo Guard shoots the ball at a high rate from outside and has shown she can do well in the lane. Swanson has good strength and can hold her own against older and bigger opponents on the defensive end.
Cassidy Arni out of Geneva had an impressive performance against a tough Maine West squad, leading her team with 14 points. The 6’0” Freshman Forward has the size and strength to compete in the lane on both ends and ability to stretch the floor with a good-looking outside shot.
The third Freshman on this list, Joliet West’s Lisa Thompson showed why her potential is so high. The 5’8” Combo Guard is super athletic and tough to stay in front of when she looks to attack. Thompson has great handles, and when she gets past her defender she is smooth in the lane and finishes well in traffic.
Thompson’s Sophomore teammate Grace Walsh is another interesting underclassman prospect on this Joliet West team. The 5’9” Guard has a nice jump shot and her ability to make plays is intriguing. Walsh ran the floor well in transition and did a nice job driving to the hoop with a purpose and finishing.
Stagg Junior Kelsey Dwyer had a big impact in a fun, close game against Nazareth Academy. The 6’0” Junior shot the ball well from deep, hitting on a couple threes in the Fourth Quarter to give Stagg a shot at the win. Dwyer’s length allows her to shoot over defenders and guard multiple positions on the defensive end.
Sophomore Madi Stark from Palatine had a nice all-around game against Oak Forest. The 5’10” Combo Guard did a little bit of everything well on the offensive end. She handles the ball and leads the offense at a solid pace and showed abilities to score in the paint or knock down shots from outside.
