Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several 2020 Guards.
Ryanna Breshears, 5’7, G, 2020, Emporia
Breshears is an athletic player who brings leadership and experience to the floor. She has a good bounce to her dribble and solid rhythm to her overall play. She is a sniper from 3-point range when she finds her shot and opponents can count on her as a scoring threat throughout all four quarters. Breshears can handle the ball some for herself and also knows how to create shots and score inside the arc as well. A player who uses her speed and physicality to her advantage as a defender and offensive threat.
Taiyah Chapman, PG, 2020, Hutchinson
A lead guard for Hutchinson who brings handles and leadership to the floor. She runs the show from the point and shows activity both as a full court defender and organizer with the ball. She has a high IQ and looks to facilitate and get those around her involved. She’s sneaky on defense and plays physical and uses her smaller stature to her advantage. Chapman is also capable of scoring but brings a team-first mentality to the floor.
Haley Miller, 4’11, PG, 2020, Buhler
A nimble player who uses her speed and size to her advantage. She’s great at getting her shot off in transition before contact and has a nice one-handed floater a few feet inside the paint. She can extend plays with her three-point range and has good handles for her position and the ability to break down defenses and get inside and score or distribute to her teammates who are crashing the boards or popping out to hit an open 3-pointer. An intelligent player who takes what the defense gives her.
Heather Mills, 5’5, PG, 2020, Derby
Mills is a strong and physical guard who looks to contribute on both ends of the floor. She can score from distance and does so well at times, showing a clean shot with good mechanics. She can rebound some and looks to use the team system to her advantage and applies strong pressure to the ball. Mills is averaging 6.1 points, 1.1 ssists, 2.3 rebounds and can force turnovers and come away with the ball. She’s shooting 41 percent from the field and a terrific 43 percent from 3-point range.
Kierra Prim, 5’7, PG, 2020, Shawnee Mission West
An elite guard with terrific athleticism and the ability to make plays on both sides of the floor with little to no effort. She’s competitive, strong and demands a lot of herself as she knows what she’s capable of doing on a nightly basis. Prim is a nightmare to defend given her handles, scoring ability from inside and beyond the arc and flexibility as an athlete, which also makes her a terrific defensive player as well. She’s incredibly scrappy and can block shots and come away with the ball and create fast break opportunities in the blink of an eye.
