In this article, we take a look at our #48 ranked player in the class of 2022, Saige Grampsas. A 5’6 point guard for the Shawnee Mission Northwest Lady Cougars and a member of Next Level Eclipse grassroots program.
The current leader in the conference leader in assist, and the floor general for the Lady Cougars who are currently ranked number #3 for 5A in the state and #1 in the Sunflower. A sharpshooting guard with great instincts and feel for the game. I got in a little Q and A with Saige to get an in-depth look at her and her basketball career thus far.
Q: When did you start playing basketball?
A: I started playing basketball at age 5.
Q: Have you played any other sports and if so which?
A: I played softball until 6th grade but i stopped to focus just on basketball and basketball is my strongest sport.
Saige has stepped into the starting point guard role brilliantly for the Lady Cougars. She continues to show dedication and willingness to be the facilitator of her team. Although leading the Sunflower League in assist, her ability to score is probably an underrated part of her game. Grampsas, has elite level shooting capabilities from distance, good ball skills and uses floaters and pull-ups to finish in close.
Q: Any career highs you want to share?
A: My career highs in high school for points I think is around 16 points and assist is 12 and around 10 rebounds too
Q: What are some goals you have both team and individually this year?
A: My individual goals in basketball is to break the assist record at my high school and play in college at-least D2 level. My goals for my team is to make it to state and win the State title.
Saige is a member of Next Level Eclipse grassroots program and has been there for several years. I wanted to know a little bit more about her club basketball experiences and where she’s it taken her.
“I play for Next Level Eclipse and I have played with them for 3 years. I think club ball is important because it keeps you playing basketball more than just on your high school team and you play harder competition and you get scouted more in club then in high school season I think. I don’t know exactly where i want to play in college yet but I know i for sure want too. ”
Saige and the Lady Cougars travel to McPherson, KS later this week to compete in McPherson High School basketball tournament. Look for her in action and for great success in her future.
