West Hancock looks like a future state title winner
West Hancock opened the season as our #1 team in 2A as well as being our pick to win a state title. Fast forward to now and all they have done is blow teams out of the water and rattle off 20 wins in a row. Last night we were at the game against 13-4 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and we had expected a pretty good game. West Hancock dismantled the guests 74-27 en route to solidifying themselves as one of the top teams in the state. Senior Amanda Chizek had a magnificent performance as she scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Sophomore Rachel Leerar added in 19 points along with nine assists and eight steals. Now in 2A, it will be interesting to see who stands in their way as Cascade and North Linn look like the two strongest contenders to take the crown away from West Hancock.
Cedar Falls takes down Xavier
Cedar Falls led comfortably throughout the game en route to the 60-42 win. They led by 18 at the half and kept that lead the rest of the game. Northern Iowa commits senior Emerson Green and junior Anaya Barney both had 19 points in the game to lead both squads in scoring. Barney added in eight rebounds while Green had five assists in the game. Cedar Falls is going to be a very tough out in the state tournament and they proved that in the win over Xavier. Unfortunately, UAB commit Caitlynn Daniels is out for the year with a knee injury so Xavier will be forced to lean on senior Libby Arnold, a William Jewell commit, and Aree Beckmann. These two are very capable of carrying the load and with Aubrey Jones, Mary Kate Moeder, and Lexi Turner, Xavier is still going to be a tough out.
Sophomore Katie Clark cleaned the glass against GMG
Coming into the game Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s sophomore was averaging just a little under 6.5 rebounds a game. On Monday night she exploded to grab 23 rebounds in an important win over GMG. Clark demonstrated a tremendous ability to crash the boards and even was able to grab eight offensive rebounds. While not the highest rebounding total in the state this year, 23 rebounds in a game is nothing to scoff about.
