With a few mid-high major D1 guard prospects and a handful of low-mid major D1 prospects and below, this group has a little bit of everything. Here is part one of some of the top guards to know!
Class of 2022: The Guards
6’0 SG Jada Wynn Jada Wynn 6'0" | SG Troy | 2022 State CA (King’s HS) – One of the better shooters in the state with the ability to knock it down from deep and she is money from the free throw line. The daughter of Washington women’s Head and Assistant coach, Jody and Derek Wynn, Jada has grown up around the game it shows when she is on the floor. A D1 prospect without her parents being D1 coaches, but most would obviously assume she will find her way in the purple and gold in the next few years.
5’8 PG Veronica Sheffey Veronica Sheffey 5'8" | PG Woodinville | 2022 State WA (Woodinville HS) – One of the top performing guards in the entire state and did so on the state’s number one team for the majority of the season, before placing second overall. Sheffey is a smooth lefty with a nice handle, ability to execute half court offense and she can shoot it from the outside. She really does just about everything on the floor well and she is a legitimate Division 1 prospect.
5’7 PG Mackendra Konig Mackendra Konig 5'7" | PG Jackson | 2022 WA (Jackson HS) – Younger sister of NC State’s Aislinn Konig and she has plenty of her own game. The younger Konig has a monstrous individual sophomore season for Jackson, setting records including the most 3’s made in a single game (8) and the most points in Wesco League history with a jaw-dropping 47 points. She has the full offensive arsenal and saw her stock rise more after a strong high school season.
5’8 CG Dylan Philip Dylan Philip 5'8" | CG Ellensburg | 2022 State WA (Ellensburg HS) – A guard that can play the one or the two at 5’8. She has speed that allows her to attack down hill and she is good in the uptempo game. She defends, scraps and rebounds really hard. She led Ellensburg to an undefeated regular season record and was a standout each and everytime she stepped on the floor. Another D1 guard prospect in the 2022 class.
5’7 PG Mya Hatchett Groce Mya Hatchett Groce 5'7" | PG Pasco | 2022 State WA (Pasco HS) – A point guard that I saw improvement from a year ago. She handles pressure well and can impact the game in the half court or uptempo setting. Groce does a good job of attacking off the bounce and getting into the paint where she utilizes crafty footwork to score it or create passing angles. *Feature image
5’6 CG Aniyah Heavens Aniyah Heavens 5'6" | CG Chiawana | 2022 State WA (Pasco HS) – Teammate to Groce mentioned above, making up one of the tougher backcourts in Washington. Heavens is a player that stays in attack mode and can score attacking downhill. She is best described as a tough shot maker and she never appears to be afraid of the moment. Heavens has picked up early college interest and a really good Summer could solidify her recruitment with offers.
5’7 PG Rosa Smith Rosa Smith 5'7" | PG Lake Washington | 2022 State WA (Lake Washington HS) – Coming off of an outstanding high school season, Smith has seen her stock rise in the last few months. She is skilled and understands how to play the game. The ability to create her own shot is there, but she is also comfortable setting up her teammates to score. The lead point guard of the 3A state runner-up is fully deserving of being mentioned as one of the top sophomores in the state.
5’10 SG Kiana Yesiki Kiana Yesiki 5'10" | SG Eisenhower | 2022 State WA (Eisenhower HS) – The Archbishop Murphy transfer put together a very strong individual sophomore season. The Yakima area does not get as much widespread coverage as other regions in the state, but Yesiki is a college prospect. Wired to score and a quality offensive skill set to match, Yesiki is a Division 1 prospect with a strong frame and potential to continue to get better over time.
