Hemlock hosted their annual Holiday Classic on Tuesday, and I couldn't wait to drive up for the games. It was my first trip to Hemlock and I was very impressed. Their concessions food was delicious and the best value I've seen all season. Printed roster brochures were available upon entry and I loved the classic arena rock during games. Bay City John Glenn defeated Lansing Catholic 46-35 in the opening game, while Freeland won 57-43 in the second matchup to give Hemlock their first loss of the year. There were notable performances in both games and these girls grabbed my attention during the first matchup.

A'leeyah moved her feet quickly to force a turnover and worked hard to cut off dribble drives on the defensive end. She took a DHO straight to the rim with a burst and banked in the floater over a defender. A'leeyah converted full-speed finishes efficiently in transition, knocked down free throws, and drained a smooth wing three off the catch. She had a very impactful day for John Glenn at the Hemlock Holiday Classic, leading the team with 17 points and adding four rebounds.

Allie was dialed in for John Glenn and she gave the offense a spark with her perimeter shooting. She swished two corner threes and added another deep triple from the wing to give the Bobcats nine points. Allie works hard to disrupt passing lanes and make an impact on the defensive end.

Sydney kept Lansing Catholic in the game and turned heads with her shifty playmaking at the Hemlock Holiday Classic. She swished deep straightaway threes and free throws with a confident wrist-snapping follow through. Sydney escaped full court pressure and drove hard to the rim. She turned ball-handlers with her quick footwork on defense and reached in to create steals. Sydney had the ball on a string and scored a sweet double-crossover drive-by layup. She chased down rebounds with an all-out effort and contributed in all phases. Sydney led the team with 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, swiped three steals, and dished out two assists.

Lauren took the ball to the rim for a determined layup through contact and made a smooth transfer for another finish around the basket. She made a strong outlet pass after grabbing a defensive board and worked hard to secure rebounds throughout the game. Lauren used her length to deflect an inbounds pass and knocked down two free throws with confidence. She's a versatile guard-wing in the Lansing Catholic program and had a productive day at the Hemlock Holiday Classic, pouring in six points with seven rebounds.

Lillian worked hard to make an impact for John Glenn at the Hemlock Holiday Classic. She's a physical forward with excellent passing instincts. Lillian caught the ball with good hands then immediately made a lightning quick pass to an open cutter for an assist. She fired a strong pass over the defense to a sprinting teammate in transition, crashed the glass, and won battles for rebounds. Lillian grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists, and swatted a shot.

Aubrey was locked in for John Glenn at the Hemlock Holiday Classic and her complete performance helped the Bobcats cruise to a win. She harassed opposing guards in the back court and created several points off turnovers after stealing the ball away. Aubrey showed a second gear on her drives to the basket, threw passes on a rope to open teammates, and scanned the floor in transition.
Grace had a knack for the ball and she kept taking it away on the defensive end. She pinned a defender on her hip with a strong seal and finished off two feet. Grace used a strong high-rip move to score another layup in front of the rim and pushed the tempo to create transition scoring opportunities. She ripped the ball away clean with aggression for a steal and ended the game with four points, seven steals, three rebounds, and a block. Grace had an impactful day for Lansing Catholic at the Hemlock Holiday Classic.
