Continue ReadingIn this last version of the players to watch in the class of 2024 we further explore some girls in the Central Illinois area. We have a nice mixture of smaller school kids that may see action early and some larger school kids that will take some time to earn a varsity spot. As always with watch lists, take everything with a grain of salt, this is just that a watch list. At this age these players have shown signs of turning into a strong player but almost everyone has a long way to go before they are a finished product. Enjoy.
- Gianna Rawlings 5’7 Wing from Normal Community and G7 Legacy. Gianna is a strong finisher at the rim that can also step out and hit the 3-point shot. She is a tough defender who has a good high school body already.
- Lindsey Noonan 5’10 Forward from U High and G7 Legacy. Lindsey has good size and mobility for a younger girl. She can block shots well and handles well for a player with size. Her offensive game is good in the lane and she is developing more range.
- Olivia Patton 5’11 post from U High and G7 Legacy. Olivia is a strong physical player that is an excellent rebounder. She handles the ball well for her size. She has an improving inside game. Olivia is very aggressive on defense and on the boards, which sometimes causes foul trouble so she needs to learn to control it.
- Ali Ince 5’6 Guard from Normal Community. Ali is very quick and has great speed. She finishes well in the lane and is a good shooter. Ali has a high motor that she uses to take advantage of her athletic ability. She needs to add strength
- Cate Uhren 5’4 Point Guard Bloomington Central Catholic and G7 Legacy. Cate is a true point guard and floor general. She handles the ball well and sees the floor. Cate can shoot the 3 with deep range for a young player and also needs to get stronger
- Olivia Corson 5’7 Wing from Normal Community. Olivia has good length which she uses well on both ends of the floor. She can defend and also can use her length to finish at the rim. Olivia has good range on her shot and good speed in the open court game
- Melissa Gant 5’9 Wing from Springfield High. Melissa is a very good all around athlete and player that excels in her on the ball defense. Her upside is very high as she has exceptional quickness to go with a nice frame.
- Lily Luczkowiak 5’9 Forward from Illini Bluffs. Lily is a smooth players that can shoot it from the outside and also attack the rim. She has a knack for putting the ball in the hoop. Right now Lily scores most consistently from 15 feet and in, but she is working hard to expand her perimeter game.Lily had great success on the big stage at IESA state tourney.
- Mia Ballard 5’5 Guard from North Clay. Mia is a very strong scoring guard. She uses her build well to force her way into the lane where she can score over bigger girls. When the defense plays off her Mia is a very capable 3-point shooter.
- Raegen Stringer 5’1 Point Guard from Tolono. Raegen is a true point guard that does a good job of setting up her teammates for easy baskets. She is smart, has a great basketball IQ and can also hit the open shot when it is there. Raegen shows the skills to be a college level player with her ball handling and passing being what sticks out the most.
- Sierra Sitter 5’5 Point Guard from Pekin. Sierra plays the lead guard role very well. She uses her quick first step and athletic ability to excel in the open floor and as an on the ball defender. She sees the floor well and will knock down the open 3-point shot when the defense does not close out.
- Kaitlyn Vahling 5’6 Guard from Teutopolis. Kaitlyn excels at getting to the rim where she can finish with either hand. She is very quick which makes staying in front of her a big task for most defenders. Kaitlyn comes from the long line of TTown kids that are well drilled in the fundamentals of the game so she passes well, defends well and is a smart player.
- Claire Seal 5’8 Guard from Mahomet Seymour. Claire is a fierce competitor that excels at getting the rim and drawing contact. She is a coaches daughter so she has spent time around the game and has a feel for it. Claire is working to improve her perimeter game to take her to another level.
As I have stated with other articles, hopefully we will see these girls get on the floor this summer to get a better evaluation of how their game may translate to the high school level.
