After defeating Fenton 58-27 in the Flint Metro League Championship Game, Goodrich needed one more victory to celebrate a perfect regular season on their home court. Against 14-6 Davison, the Martians turned in a dominant team effort from start to finish. They swarmed the Cardinals on defense, moved the ball continuously until open shots presented themselves, and pursued rebounds vigorously on both ends. Goodrich defeated Davison 62-22 to finish undefeated for the second time in the past three seasons. Goodrich has seen their season end in the Quarterfinals to the eventual State Champion each of the past two seasons (Detroit Edison, Tecumseh). The Martians made it to the State Semifinals in 2023, and they look determined to make it back this March. Here are the prospects who stood out during Thursday's game.

Katerina has a bright future ahead of her at Goodrich and she's already making a difference as a freshman. Her defense and excellent passing instincts is what stood out most during Thursday's game. Katerina has a long, wiry, and athletic frame. She swatted a shot with emphasis in the paint and closed out full-speed on the perimeter to block another shot attempt. Katerina anticipates dribbles, moves her feet quickly, and avoids fouling. She forced a 6-footer to spin on a drive, stayed on her hip, timed the shot up perfectly, and blocked it clean. Katerina crashed the glass to score a putback and converted a nice, catch and finish.

Kayla makes a multidimensional impact on the court, and she had another solid outing for Goodrich during their win on Thursday. Kayla's pesky ball-pressure generated many steals on the defensive end, and she used a variety of crossovers and spin dribbles to continuously penetrate the defense. Kayla scored off backdoor cuts and drive-by layups. She swished a smooth three-pointer in the corner and threw quick, strong passes to open teammates. Kayla poured in 10 points for the Martians.

Top prospects separate themselves on the court, and that's exactly what Baylor did during Thursday's win. She changed directions suddenly with a double-crossover, drove to the rim with a burst, and finished the layup. Baylor took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast, switching hands in transition, then finished with a graceful opposite-hand layup. She penetrated the defense constantly throughout the game, scored several layups, and dished out assists when help defenders rotated. Baylor has a compact, strong build, and she outmuscles opponents to get into scoring/rebounding position. She made smart backdoor cuts, caught passes on the move, and converted layups confidently using either hand without skipping a beat. Baylor swiped the ball away clean using her quick hands to score a breakaway bucket and pestered guards all night to rack up the steals. I appreciated her demonstration of sportsmanship by helping an opponent up off the floor. Baylor worked inside to score offensive rebound putbacks and led the Martians with 22 points in three quarters of action.

Against a daunting opponent, Ja'Miyah displayed next-level qualities. Her length, physicality, athleticism, and effort on both sides of the ball grabbed my attention. She made good backdoor cuts and scored a layup off two feet. Ja'Miyah split the gap on a hard drive, caused a foul, and drained both free throws. She went up in a crowd to snag a rebound off the rim and was the team's most aggressive rebounder. Ja'Miyah anticipated a pass on the perimeter for a steal. She worked hard to move her feet and cut off drives. Ja'Miyah led Davison with 5 points.

Tanner is one of the best wings in her class, and she's going to be an instant impact player in Mid-Michigan's lineup next year. Tanner was dialed in from deep, draining three moonshots from beyond the college line. Her athleticism, length, and aggressive instincts made life difficult for the opponent. She tracked the ball like a hawk in transition to snag multiple steals and jumped up to bat down a pass for another steal. Tanner showed off her quarterback arm, firing a full-court pass over the defense to a sprinting teammate for the assist. She pivoted in the paint to score a tough, contested jumper and dished out assists. Tanner scored 15 points in three quarters for the Martians and turned in a complete performance.
