Breaking Down Maddy Beatson and Deanna Robinson's Skills

This mixed group of talent caught my eye at the The Shootout at Boo Williams held at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. They were led by Maddy Beatson, who has clearly put herself in position to be ranked, and Deanna Robinson, who proved to be one of the more impactful bigs at the event.   Deanna's presence in the paint stood out, while Maddy's overall play and leadership helped set the tone for the group. Based on their performances, both have made strong cases to be recognized moving forward.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">YKS 17U P24:</h2>    Maddy shows excellent ball and body control, especially in traffic and under pressure. She changes speeds with purpose and redirects smoothly in the open court, making her difficult to contain. One of her go-to moves—a patented drop behind-the-back into a sudden stop—consistently creates space, giving her the option to drive, facilitate, or rise into a shot.   In transition, she was just as impressive, finishing a flawless coast-to-coast possession while keeping heavy defensive pressure on her hip the entire way. That level of control and composure speaks to her advanced feel for the game.   With her size, skill set, and confident approach, Maddy already carries a college-ready game and mindset.     Rún is a steady combo guard who can seamlessly shift between scoring and running the point. She plays with patience on the wing, letting the game come to her, but can heat up quickly—as shown by her knocking down two strong field goals.   She was most effective attacking the basket, using her size and strength to absorb contact and still finish or get to the line. Her willingness to play through contact led to multiple trips to the stripe, where she went 4-for-7. With that blend of control and physicality, Rún brings reliable production in multiple roles.     Katherine showed her value as a true stretch player, consistently spacing the floor and knocking down the deep ball, as she did Saturday with two made threes. Her ability to extend the defense opens things up for her team.   She also flashed a developing mid-range and interior game, using her height effectively and finishing with one field goal while going 3-for-4 from the line. Defensively, she held her own against similar matchups, showing discipline and control with just two fouls in a competitive setting.   With her shooting touch and growing all-around game, Katherine brings a versatile presence on both ends.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 Carolina All-Stars:</h2>    Deanna serves as the vocal anchor for her team, quarterbacking the defense from the back end and consistently putting her teammates in the right positions. Her communication and awareness stand out, helping organize everything behind the play.   She controls the glass on both ends and makes her presence felt by contesting nearly every attempt at the rim. Offensively, she uses her body well to carve out space, allowing her to operate effectively in the paint. With her leadership, physicality, and interior impact, Deanna brings a strong two-way presence.     Maddie displayed impressive court vision Saturday, consistently finding opportunities to put teammates in scoring position both in the half court and in transition. Her ability to read the floor and thread passes shows a high basketball IQ.   At 6' tall, she effectively uses the triple-threat position, making quick and decisive reads to either pass or attack the basket herself. Her combination of size, vision, and decision-making makes her a versatile and impactful playmaker.
