As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed.
Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="128997" first="Taylor" last="Veach"] - Central DeWitt
For her sophomore season, all [player_tooltip player_id="128997" first="Taylor" last="Veach"] did was scored 20.5 points per game with over six rebounds for Central DeWitt, helping the team win 18 games and reach a regional championship.
Veach finished with 451 points, 140 rebounds, 33 assists, 33 steals and 11 blocked shots, shooting almost 54 percent from the floor with 47 made three-pointers. She made nearly 41 percent of her triples and was also a 71 percent shooter from the free throw line.
Expect even more out of Veach as Central DeWitt fights for a spot in the state tournament this winter.
[player_tooltip player_id="129064" first="Kora" last="Katcher"] - Center Point-Urbana
With [player_tooltip player_id="134996" first="Adrianna" last="Katcher"] moving on to Southern Illinois, more control of the Center Point-Urbana team goes to [player_tooltip player_id="63567" first="Ryley" last="Goebel"]. But they will need players to step into bigger roles.
One of those could be [player_tooltip player_id="129064" first="Kora" last="Katcher"], who saw action in 15 games a season ago. She produced 43 points with 19 rebounds, 17 assists and 10 steals, shooting nearly 43 percent from the field with six made triples.
Madison Maahs - Western Dubuque
Western Dubuque’s Madison Maahs made herself known to the conference last year, scoring 209 points with 24 made three-pointers.
Maahs also added 97 rebounds, 34 assists, 33 steals and blocked seven shots. She was effective in getting to the free throw stripe, attempting 73 shots, and finished by making over 53 percent of her attempts.
Tenley Cavanagh - Maquoketa
Following a season on the hardwood, Maquoketa’s Tenley Cavanagh should be poised for a big junior season.
Cavanagh recorded 171 points with 56 rebounds, 39 assists, 26 steals and 11 blocks last year. Exactly 100 of her 176 attempts from the field were three-point attempts, as she made 28 in all.
Look for improved shooting touch and a boost in scoring from Cavanagh.
Allison Meadows - Central DeWitt
Providing quite the running mate from the Class of 2022 to Central DeWitt’s [player_tooltip player_id="128997" first="Taylor" last="Veach"] is Allison Meadows.
As a sophomore, Meadows scored 339 points with 62 rebounds, 52 assists and 51 steals. She made over 41 percent of her shots, adding 36 triples while also going 73-for-93 at the free throw stripe.
