Summer Rankings Update: 2028 Point Guards in the Top 30

The evaluation and rankings process was expedited this spring and summer due to the volume of Prep Girls Hoops tournaments in Michigan and mass participation by clubs and teams on our Prep Girls Hoops Circuit. The Prep Girls Hoops College Tour series and Prep Girls Hoops Michigan State Tournament gave us five chances to see prospects compete locally right here in Michigan. Nearly every club with college prospects in Michigan competed in front of our scouts at one Prep Girls Hoops tournament, and many clubs attended more than one. This reality created the perfect environment for us to evaluate prospects from across the state against various levels of competition.   After actively evaluating prospects during the first travel session, we now have 235 players ranked. Height, size, speed, athleticism, fundamental skill development, the position a player is projected to play at the next level, and performance in different competitive settings are all taken into account. Our goal with every class is to accurately group prospects into the correct categories of college potential/projection. By the end of senior year, each class breaks down into clear categories: Power Four/D1+, D1/D2+, D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+, NAIA/D3/JUCO, and NAIA/D3 reserve. As I've written many times, the levels of college basketball intersect, cross, and differ in competitive ability throughout all the divisions. All high school classes do not have the same size, talent, or level of college talent. However, based on my tracking of commitments over the past three years, there appears to be a predictable trend in Michigan.   Based on data from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes, there could be approximately 410 or more prospects per grade who can play some level of college basketball. There will always be multisport athletes who don't do travel basketball or play in some remote area where we just don't get the opportunity to identify them for our rankings, despite our best efforts. Using averages from the past three classes, there may be anywhere from 10-20 D1 commits, 20-30 D2 commits, and 125-140 NAIA/D3/JUCO commits in a particular class. However, this 2028 class is clearly going to be an outlier. The number of prospects rated as D1/D2+ and D2/D3+/NAIA+/JUCO+ is greater than the typical average, with the biggest increase happening with 20+ prospects rated D1/D2+ and 55+ prospects rated as D2/NAIA+/D3+/JUCO+. The outcome of this surplus of talent/depth will hopefully mean more opportunities for these high school prospects to play impactful minutes at the best college level for them in Michigan, across the Midwest, and wherever they decide to go. She seized the opportunity. Many prospects are volume-dependent scorers. They need the shots and ball touches to produce stats. When a prospect is efficient without shot volume, that stands out. Layla has always been efficient with her touches, but she showed the same efficiency as the shot volume increased. That's even more impressive to me. Layla took and made threes at a high rate across three games, while demonstrating all the qualities of a high-level point guard against great competition/length/athletic guards with high offers. She's unselfish, a crafty ball-handler, an outstanding passer, competes with a high motor, talks, and demonstrates a high IQ on both ends of the court. Layla was a consistent Top Performer for Mystics on the PGH Circuit all spring and closed out the circuit with an All-Tournament MVP performance.     Ashlyn has consistently performed at a high level during this evaluation cycle in front of our scouts. Whether it's at an elite camp, team camp, or travel tournament, Ashlyn has been consistent. She's had the opportunity in these different environments to demonstrate her versatility and the qualities that translate to the college level. Ashlyn is a pure scorer who checks all those boxes as a point guard, but she's capable of playing off the ball and taking on different roles to help the team be successful. She was an All-Tournament First Team selection with [program_tooltip program_id='712670' first='Michigan' last='Storm Elite'] 16U at the GVSU PGH Michigan College Tour and the Championship Game MVP. Ashlyn provides some length at the point guard spot, is athletic, changes directions suddenly, has get-by you speed as a slasher, finishes with excellent touch using either hand at the basket, and scores through contact. She's sharp on the defensive end and fast laterally. Ashlyn is very effective at distributing passes off dribble penetration and makes opponents pay for giving her an inch to shoot on the perimeter. She picked up an offer from Hope College and was a top five player at elite camp.     Brynnly was far and away the biggest stock riser on the PGH Circuit this spring. Her sharpshooting, shifty handles, length, skill, instincts as the lead guard, and two-way dominance led to two All-Tournament First Team selections and Top Performer recognition at multiple PGH tournaments. She impressed our scouts in the state and received high praise as a complete player from our PGH scout from Ohio at Midwest Live. Brynnly is aggressive off the dribble, gets to the rim, and finishes with a touch in traffic. She has deadly accuracy from beyond the arc off the dribble or the catch. Brynnly is a phenomenal passer, competes with endless energy, and makes an impact on the defensive end. She picked up D1 offers from Murray State and Detroit Mercy, and added a D2 offer from Northwood.     Emily proved she belongs with the top point guards in this class, delivering an All-Tournament First Team and Co-MVP performance for MBA UAA 16U at the PGH Michigan State Tournament. She was a consistent Top Performer throughout the spring, demonstrating qualities that translate to the college game. Emily adds some length at the point guard spot, shoots well from beyond the arc, has outstanding passing abilities/court vision, and is a relentless rebounding presence. Emily creates looks with her dribble penetration, slashes to the basket, and finishes well in traffic. She's battled back from injury and has athleticism that stands out in contested situations. Emily works hard on the defensive end and disrupts the passing lanes. She had another strong showing with Caledonia at BCAM Reaching Higher and checks all the boxes as a next-level lead guard.     Addison made it clear that she was an elite prospect consistently during games at BCAM Reaching Higher and Oakland Team Camp. Her pinpoint shooting from the perimeter, strong and physical drives, powerful finishes through contact, athleticism, length, defensive impact, and skill as the lead guard left no doubt that she belonged in the top five. Her D1 offers now include Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Lindenwood, and Oakland.
