About Ashlyn
Expert Analysis

Ashlyn paced her group during the between-the-legs, lift, dribble build-up series, pounding the ball hard with good speed and maximum effort. You should compete as hard in drills as you do in games, and Ashlyn made a great impression by doing that at Hope Elite Camp. Implementing instructions that are emphasized by the coaching staff is an important quality to have as a recruit. The coaching staff challenged the prospects to increase their energy and apply the program’s pillars during camp. Ashlyn was high-fiving players in line, clapping, and making a concerted effort to vocally encourage others. She set screens to create open looks for teammates, threw accurate touch entry passes to rollers, picked off passes on the defensive end, and penetrated off the dribble. Ashlyn moved her feet quickly laterally, anticipated a spin move, and stripped the ball away. She used a shifty lateral pocket dribble step-back move to sink a mid-corner three and moved well without the ball. Ashlyn turned in an impressive all-around performance at camp.

Ashlyn started strong Saturday morning at CMU Team Camp and continued to perform at a high level for Miflord throughout the day. Her aggressive defense and dribble penetration stood out early. Ashlyn caught a pass and changed hands in the air to convert a layup, side-stepped a defender on a fast break to score after stealing the ball away, and drove hard into contact to earn trips to the line. She created separation using lateral pocket dribbles, accelerated past her defender with her left down the baseline, elevated at the rim, and finished strong through the contact. Ashlyn used a quick crossover move to get by on a drive, finished with the left-handed lay-up, then tacked on the free throw. She crashed the glass to secure offensive rebounds and fired a pass up the court to a teammate sprinting ahead for an assist. In the afternoon, Ashlyn kept it rolling for the Mustangs. She used a killer combination of dribbles with a pocket, punch jab, and spin to get by her defender, then finished in traffic. Ashlyn proved that if you give her an inch, you give her a mile, swishing a three from the corner, a triple in the slot off the hop, and a smooth crossover straightaway three up top off the bounce.

She swiped the ball away for a layup, finished with finesse at the rim, created space with her shifty dribble combinations, and handled the ball confidently against length and pressure. Ashlyn led the way with 13 points and received recognition as Diamond Championship Game MVP.

Ashlyn dropped 27 points in the win on Tuesday; her dynamic display of offensive talent was exciting to watch. One of her “wow” moments came when she used a sudden behind-the-back crossover combination to put her defender on the floor, then slammed into high gear for a drive-by layup. Ashlyn swished a soft floater off a crossover dribble at the buzzer to end the third quarter and buried three triples. She made a smart read to refuse a screen, attacked hard downhill, switched hands smoothly to her left, and finished the layup through a foul. Ashlyn caused turnovers with her constant pressure and will be a special prospect to watch in the LVC this season.

Ashlyn was expected to be the Maverick’s top gun this season and she wasted no time etching her name in the Milford record books. Ashlyn set a new school record by hitting 7 three-pointers on 9 attempts against Fenton last Tuesday in a 63-26 victory. She tallied 25 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds in what was an exceptional day for one of Michigan’s finest freshman guards.

Ashlyn has been an exciting point guard prospect to watch leading up to the winter season and she will be an immediate game-changer for Milford as a freshman. Ashlyn has multi-level scoring efficiency as a driver and shooter, which demands double teams from opponents. She has led the Mavericks to wins against tough opponents during the summer with her determined performance on both ends of the court. With her explosiveness offensively and defensive determination, I have no doubts that Ashlyn will earn All-Conference First Team honors in 2024.
