Layla had the opportunity to play a lead role for Mystics 16U against 17U teams at the SVSU PGH College Tour. She seized the opportunity. Many prospects are volume-dependent scorers. They need the shots and ball touches to produce stats. When a prospect is efficient without shot volume, that stands out. Layla has always been efficient with her touches, but she showed the same efficiency as the shot volume increased. That’s even more impressive to me. Layla took and made threes at a high rate across three games, while demonstrating all the qualities of a high-level point guard against great competition/length/athletic guards with high offers. She’s unselfish, a crafty ball-handler, an outstanding passer, competes with a high motor, talks, and demonstrates a high IQ on both ends of the court. Layla was a consistent Top Performer for Mystics on the PGH Circuit all spring and closed out the circuit with an All-Tournament MVP performance.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that Layla must have hit close to 20 three-pointers across three games. Many of those threes were well beyond the college line, labeled “deep” in my notes, and it felt like every shot was headed for the bottom of the net. Layla was efficient and accurate from different spots all around the arc. It looked like she was doing a shootaway demonstration while the defense stood there starstruck. Layla communicates on the court, points, makes the effort plays, and operates at a higher level as far as basketball IQ. Layla knows where the ball needs to go and is an elite court general. She hit a deep wing three, then swiped the ball away with quick hands to score a soft floater off the glass on the next possession. She dished out dimes for assists, accelerated with a burst down the baseline for a speedy layup, boxed out an opponent to the free throw line, scored full-speed layups in transition, and sprinted back to break up a fast break scoring chance. Layla had an opportunity to play the lead role and delivered a performance that nobody who was in the gym will forget. Layla is the PGH Michigan College Tour IV 17U MVP and an All-Tournament First Team selection.

Layla impressed me greatly during her first game for Mystics 16U P24 at the PGH MI College Tour. Her cerebral, high-IQ decision-making, awareness of spacing/where people and the ball need to go, constant talking/directing, facilitating, defensive effort, and three-point accuracy made her a top performer. Layla penetrated off the dribble, kicked the ball out to open shooters, and drained the open three.

First Team All-Conference SEC-Red

Layla had a breakout year for the Dreds, averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting an efficient 40% from downtown. She plays fast, makes quick decisions, facilitates effectively, works hard defensively, makes the hustle plays, and has great ball-handling control.

Layla, a sophomore point guard for Dexter, has been a steady presence in leading her team to an 11–7 record this season. She plays the game with strong awareness and feel, consistently making smart reads and keeping her team organized. An unselfish playmaker, Layla delivers crisp, well-timed passes and creates scoring opportunities for those around her. She’s also a reliable scoring option herself, capable of knocking down shots from the perimeter when called upon. On the defensive end, she competes with intensity and focus, taking pride in shutting down opposing guards. With her ability to impact multiple areas of the game, Layla is a player who can contribute across the board on any given night.

Layla had an impressive showing at Wade’s World Showcase, standing out as one of the most composed and skilled guards in the gym. She displayed excellent court vision and a natural feel for setting up her teammates, always making the right read in transition and half-court play. During 3v3 action, she caught fire from deep, draining back-to-back threes with confidence. Her high basketball IQ and smooth playmaking ability made her a steadying presence on the floor, proving she’s a guard who can both score and lead effectively.

Layla had a solid day at the Northwood Elite Camp. She crashed the boards to grab an offensive rebound and finished with a smooth reverse. Layla accelerated down the baseline, used a quick crossover, and scored the layup. She buried a confident corner three and distributed the rock effectively to open teammates. Layla’s a prospect who impacts the game on both ends–expect a huge sophomore season from her at Dexter this winter.

Layla sprouted a few inches, and her game blossomed on the court for Dexter as a freshman. She received SEC-Red First Team honors and helped the Dreds win a district title. At Mystics Get Ready, Layla was locked in from downtown, burying many triples with a smooth stroke. She pushes the ball with great pace in transition, has excellent passing instincts, and drives with a burst downhill to score layups for Mystics 2028-S40.

Layla had a fantastic freshman season at Dexter and she competed hard for the Dreds against Belleville on Monday. Layla has an accurate shot from beyond the arc and she gave the team a spark with her three triples. Layla scored 10 in the game and will be exciting to watch during the travel season.

Layla has stepped up in her first season of varsity basketball to make an immediate impact for Dexter. Her confidence handling the ball under pressure, ability to make cross-court passes, finish in traffic, and knockdown perimeter shots has been impressive this season.
