Hidden 20 Showcase Standouts Pt. 1

On August 8th, the third annual Girls National Hidden Showcase presented by Area Codes Basketball was held at Nelson University in Phoenix. This event featured some of the top players in the state as well as Nevada showcasing their skills. Here, I take a look at some of the standouts from the event.    [player_tooltip player_id='780442' first='Trinity' last='Jones'] was simply on another level athletically at this event. She covered a ton of ground, ran the floor extremely well, and turned rebounds and blocked shots into easy offense. Around the basket, she finished with confidence and made things look easy in transition.     Smith looked every bit like one of Nevada's top guards. She controlled the game with the ball in her hands, got into the paint whenever she wanted, and mixed in several quality passes that led to easy scoring opportunities for teammates.     Borrallo quietly put together a very solid showing. She kept the offense organized, made the extra pass, and showed that defenders have to respect her range because she's more than capable of knocking down shots from the outside.     Hampton really showed the versatility in her game. She stretched the floor with her outside shot, but when defenders closed out too hard, she had no problem taking them inside and using her strength to finish around the basket.     Coleman played well all across the board at the event. She used her length well, handled the ball with confidence, and made several quality passes from the perimeter. I also liked how aggressive she stayed attacking the basket through contact instead of settling.     “Who is that?” was the question I was asked. Van Heel continues to fly under the radar, but she keeps answering with her play. She competed on every possession, scored at all three levels, rebounded well for her position, and brought the kind of toughness that impacts winning on both ends of the floor.     Johnson may have been the most complete prospect I watched all day. She was productive on both ends, scoring comfortably around the basket and from the mid-range while also making her presence felt defensively as both a rebounder and shot blocker.     The rising 8th grader was all over the place. She displayed a very good feel on the court. She often took the ball coast to coast and made very good reads. She played the passing lanes very well on defense and had an overall mature floor game.
