I truly emphasize putting yourselves in various settings other than club and HS ball, but what do I know, well I know the numbers I give you don’t lie on my CONSULTING page there’s a link that parents and players overlook, well they overlook a lot of what I say due to the abundance of nonsense but here you go, the link directly from the NCAA. These numbers are still somewhat inaccurate but it gives you an idea, or it should but going back to what I know, my daughters falls into that group so here’s my take on the variety of guards
Xoe Rosalez-5’6 G
Rosalez was definitely a pleasant surprise in so many ways as she handled the ball under pressure effortlessly, she saw the floor and threw passes through defenders outreached arms for assists but watching her attack the basket, from the halfcourt setting or going to coast and finishing with contact was nice, yet even nicer was her body control while in the air and the mid to long-range jumper
Peyton Overton Peyton Overton 5'7" | CG Dulles | 2022 State TX -5’7 G
Overton has been on my radar since I first saw her in middle school, maybe before she even played her first middle school game but her on-ball defense and playing the passing lane was among the best at the camp. She understands how to create her shot and she has the tools to attack strongly and finish with contact or just hit the jumper, over and over
Brooklin Brown-5’7 G
Brown is athletic, she has long arms so that too is part of the base especially when you add her explosiveness going to the basket. She has “ups” and this enables her to get her shot off over taller players and rebound over taller players as well but she always defends hard, can handle the ball going full speed and she also sees the floor well
Mya Johnson-G
Johnson gave me my first look and what I caught was her ability to get hers in the flow. She handles the ball, she makes good solid passes and she showed she could the outside jumper. Good athleticism, that came in handy when she attacked the basket and she also defends
Madison Mueller-5’4 G
Mueller showed that hashtag I made famous #sizedontmatter right off the top because she got after it and didn’t mind mixing it up but she thinks the game and understands some simple yet vital things that helped her stand out, she created her shot, under pressure, she attacked the rim as well so mixing it up early had defenders guessing as she dropped the pull-up
Trinity McGarity-5’8 G
McGarity had me thinking “book em Trinity” and not only because of the similarity of the surname but because of how she set defenders up and after she showed a variety of ways to get by them, she scored strongly after contact but her athleticism played a major role in that as well as her desire but that desire trickled over to the defensive end where showed heat
Jade Miller Jade Miller 5'6" | PG Manvel | 2022 State TX -5’5 PG
Miller time means a lot, the first time I saw her as a 5th grader I was sold because she didn’t crack a smile but she was cracking the long ball on a 4 point play. Her desire to get better and be among the best hasn’t wavered as she brings so much to the table that doesn’t always show up on scoresheets but her defense is always on point, she runs the point or she can just score from various points in droves for points
Kenna Gibson Kenna Gibson 5'5" | CG Clear Springs | 2022 State TX -5’7 PG
Gibson came out and blended in early during the skills yet when the bright lights came on, after a couple of threes everyone was yelling “guard 120” and I’m just smiling because I knew what was coming. She understands how to score multiple ways, she’s a clutch shooter, especially from mid to long-range yet she can attack and dish or finish but when she took two steps across halfcourt and dropped one for the road, I just smiled
Blake Matthews-5’4 PG
Matthews is a prime example of why I say put yourselves in various settings because I liked her game in high school and club ball, seeing her in another environment showed me even more. She’s aggressive attacking the basket, I knew that but she can drop acrobatic assists en route. Solid jumper and ballhandler, plenty of heat on defense plus her energy stays the same
