PGH Carolinas Expo Preview: 10 Must-See Prospects from NC

Last weekend, many a talented 2030 from North Carolina made the trek to the other side of the state line to South Carolina for the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase. This upcoming weekend will be when the lens is placed on the 2027, 2028 and 2029 prospects.    This Sunday will be when this year's Prep Girls Hoops Carolinas Expo emanates from the same venue as last weekend's Freshman Showcase – the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center. Considering how much of a basketball state North Carolina is, any event featuring its rising stars will always be a must-see gathering.    Here are 10 names that are poised to put forth stellar performances this Sunday in Rock Hill.    Late last month, Robinson secured an offer from William Peace University. She also received an offer from Louisburg College in July. Even though the Buccaneers of 7A Jack Britt encountered a rough 2025-26, Robinson was one of the team's bright spots as she competed in 20 of the team's 24 contests last season. A product of Raleigh-based Carolina Playmakers, Robinson was one of seven from the class of 2027 on last season's Jack Britt assembling. Robinson's versatility as a guard and a wing should translate to her finishing her high school career with a flourish in Buccaneers purple and gold.     Prior to last season, the last time the Falcons of Seventy-First claimed 23 wins throughout a season was the 2012-13 season when the team went 28-1 as a 4A team. The Falcons were reclassified into the 6A ranks starting last season and Gully ensured Seventy-First's transition would be a smooth one. Seventy-First finished 23-3 and Gully competed in all 26 contests last season. She averaged 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 1.2 assists per game throughout 2025-26. Gully recently earned offers from Randolph College and Brunswick College and spent her final season of grassroots ball running with [program_tooltip program_id='713538' first='Carolina' last='Flames'] on the Nike EYBL circuit.     During the previous few months of club ball, Robinson played up in class on the Nike circuit with AEBL 17U Gold. She more than proved that she belongs on the same court against more experienced competition. She was one of six from the class of 2028 on last season's Bengals team. Robinson is no stranger to Prep Girls Hoops events. She not only participated in the 2024 Carolinas Freshman Showcase but was one of six that made our All-Showcase Team from that event. Before sporting a green and gold Bengals uniform, Robinson wore the orange and black threads of Southeast Guilford. Greensboro Day should be well-represented this weekend in Rock Hill.     Mason has maintained an active athletic schedule throughout her career. In addition to basketball, she has also tried her hand at soccer and volleyball. Mason was Village Christian Academy's leading scorer last season, averaging 13.3 points per matchup last season. Her grassroots career has included wearing the [program_tooltip program_id='713538' first='Carolina' last='Flames'] uniform as well as that of NC Lady Nets. Not only was Mason one of four from the class of 2028 on last season's Knights team – she also had team captaincy duties. A team can place Mason in its lineup of five either at the two, three or wing. Mason was added to our 2028 rankings at the beginning of the calendar year on the Watch List.     Risk has led to plenty of rewards for her Gaston Christian team as evidenced by the 20-6 record the Eagles put together last season. Risk's recruitment has taken a step forward recently as evidenced by offers she has fielded from Central Penn College and Dominican University. Gaston Christian recently received an invite to be part of the She Got Game Tournament in Washington, D.C. in mid-December. Risk competed in all 26 of the Eagles' contests last season and averaged nine points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 3.4 assists per matchup throughout 2025-26. The Lady Slay prospect was one of four from the class of 2028 on last season's Gaston Christian team.     Throughout the spring and summer, Hutchens ran with [program_tooltip program_id='716105' first='Team' last='Mack'] 16U which played its first season on the Under Armour circuit. Said travel team is actually undergoing a merger with [program_tooltip program_id='713558' first='Lady' last='Attack Elite'] to form Carolina One. The Charlotte Latin team that Hutchens was part of last season put together a stellar 2025-26 campaign. Hutchens helped the Hawks to the program's first 20-win season since 2017-18. She competed in 21 of Charlotte Latin's 29 games last season and was one of two 2028s from last season's team. With Charlotte Latin having graduated so many seniors from last season's team, expect for Hutchens to assume a “next woman up” mentality for the Hawks throughout 2026-27.     Sides is another from Greensboro Day that will be on hand this Sunday in Rock Hill. She recently concluded her 2026 grassroots campaign playing up in class with [program_tooltip program_id='713566' first='Lady' last='Phoenix'] Select 16U. Sides' 2025-26 campaign included earning All-Conference honors for her Bengals. Prior to her arriving on the scene at Greensboro Day, she wore the uniform of Northwest Guilford – which finished 18-11 in her most recent season there. Sides is no stranger to Prep Girls Hoops events as she also took part in last year's Carolinas Expo. She has maintained an active athletic schedule over the years between playing both basketball and soccer.     A [program_tooltip program_id='713538' first='Carolina' last='Flames'] product, Tanzosch was part of the junior varsity squad last season at Cardinal Gibbons. She is another that is very familiar with Prep Girls Hoops events as she took part in last year's Carolinas Freshman Showcase. That junior varsity Crusaders assembling included eight players from the class of 2029 and put together a stellar 12-2 season with the only losses occurring against two other tough teams in South Wake and Southeast Raleigh. Tanzosch stands at 5-foot-9 and give a team worthwhile minutes either in the backcourt as a guard or in the frontcourt as a forward. Tanzosch was an addition to our 2029 rankings back in May on the Watch List.     The Cougars of 7A Wake Forest may have encountered a rough season in 2025-26 but Albert was one of the bright spots for last season's team. Albert competed in 17 contests last season and averaged 8.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Those solid numbers were enough to earn Albert All-Conference honors. Albert ran with Fireball Basketball Academy throughout the spring and summer months of travel hoops. Her team's spring and summer included appearing at the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit's Peach Games (where the team went 4-0 playing up in 16U) as well as The Shootout in Virginia.     Berg is another name that has kept an active schedule in terms of athletics as she has also played soccer in addition to her basketball achievements. She was on the junior varsity squad at East Chapel Hill but eventually ascended to varsity status. On varsity, she played in 19 contests last season for the Wildcats which were reclassified into 6A beginning with last season. Berg was part of a very young East Chapel Hill team last season – she was one of four from the class of 2029 on that squad. Berg's travel career has included a stint with [program_tooltip program_id='714756' first='Carolina' last='All-Stars'].
