Continue ReadingWith our new set of 2022 rankings come a new set of positional breakdowns, starting with the guards. This class features a strong set of ballhandlers, perhaps not as top-heavy as other positions but is plenty deep. This position is full of steady hands who do a good job controlling the offense for their teams and still have plenty of opportunities to break out and cement themselves as top prospects.
Jaya McClure Jaya McClure 5'6" | PG Christian Academy Louisville | 2022 State KY , Christian Academy Louisville- After running the show for a stacked CAL team last season, McClure moves into more of a starring role as the Centurions. While she has proven her ability to set up star players, McClure herself will be the star player going forward and will try to improve her scoring volume to go with her playmaking skills. If she excels she should be one of the state’s top overall players.
Allie Stone Allie Stone 5'5" | CG West Carter | 2022 State KY , West Carter- A true do-it-all player, Stone represents much of West Carter’s offense. She possesses the rare ability to score with both volume and efficiency from all levels, making her a superb offensive player. She is also a well above average playmaker, rebounder, and defender, giving her all the traits one could want out of a guard and more.
Cassidy Rowe Cassidy Rowe 5'5" | PG Shelby Valley | 2022 State KY , Shelby Valley- After having terrible injury luck the last few years, Rowe looks to reassert herself as one of the top players in the state. She has all the necessary skills and should return to an elite level as she gets more comfortable physically. Fortunately, her vision and basketball IQ, two of her best traits, have been unaffected by her injury troubles.
Camryn LaGrange Camryn LaGrange 5'8" | PG Madisonville-North Hopkins | 2022 State KY , Madisonville-North Hopkins- Something of a microwave scorer thus far in her career, LaGrange has shown that when she is on the has the ability to trade buckets with anyone in the state. She has yet to find great consistency, as can be expected from many young players, but fortunately she has strong playmaking skills and can set up her teammates whether she’s on a scoring tear or not.
Amaya Asher Amaya Asher 5'7" | PG Central | 2023 State KY , Central- Another elite scorer who handles the ball for her team, Asher has great size and physicality for the point guard position. She gets to the rim and finishes at a top level, making her one of the most difficult players to stop in this class. If she can improve her shooting, both from outside and from the free throw line (especially considering how much contact she draws) she is another player who can cement herself as one of the top scorers in the state.
