One good thing about showcases like this is that some kids we’ve never seen have a chance to make a first impression. Here’s a look at some prospects who impressed in the first time I saw them.
Lele Nguyen, Ryle – I also mentioned her on my top performers list but Nguyen was very impressive. I’m told she recently moved into Ryle from out of state. Lele will definitely be in the next 2022 rankings list.
Ayanna Stroud, DuPont Manual – Ayanna impressed me with her ability to score the ball. Not just a shooter, Stroud showed she can put the ball on the floor as well.
Zsana Hawkins, O’Fallon Township – Camp wasn’t limited to only Kentucky girls and Hawkins was impressive in the first game of the day. She started with a couple of nice post moves and a block but was already running out of gas after the first game. If she can improve conditioning, she can be a scholarship level player for sure.
Paige Serafini, Anderson County – The Junior was not shy about getting shots up early on Sunday and her first few attempts were off the mark. That didn’t discourage her and before long Serafini was scoring the ball well.
Wanda Stevenson, Central – Wanda is a long and athletic forward prospect who was playing hard and showed a great motor. She was able to finish around the basket, even in traffic.
Kallie Housley, Corbin – The Sophomore is primed for a breakout season for a talented Corbin team. She showed she can make shots from the perimeter and is comfortable putting the ball on the floor.
Paityn Isom, North Hardin – She may be young but there is absolutely no back down from the freshman guard. Isom took a few minutes to settle in on Sunday but once she got more comfortable she showed what a playmaker she can be with the ball in her hands.
Natalea Clark, Berea – Berea is a small school but Clark showed she can be a big talent. She made perimeter shots and played very hard in the game I watched her. Natalea has a chance to be one of the top “Class A” players in the 11th region.
