Continue ReadingThe first weekend of the PGH Circuit at the Easter Classic in Romeoville was full of talent in the 15u division. Here is my take on the top talent as I select a First team and Second team of All-Stars. As is normal these selections are tilted towards the teams that had the most success.
First Team
- Caitlin Washington Caitlin Washington 5'8" | PG Neuqua Valley | 2024 State IL Caitlin had an outstanding weekend in helping to lead the Example Sports 15u UAA team to an undefeated run in their pool. She is a point guard that can handle any kind of pressure and limit turnovers. Caitlin is capable of big scoring nights as she continues to improve her shot and ability to finish through contact. If you want to know anything about this young lady just remember that my first introduction to her was her sneaking into the PGH Top 250 by claiming she was a freshman on her entry form when she was an 8th grader. She wants the competition and craves getting better. This 2024 should be watched by high level schools looking for a player to run their squad.
- Destiny. Jackson is a 5’5 2025 Point Guard for Illinois Elite 15u Gold. Destiny has not even enrolled in high school yet, but she plays the game at a very high level. She has had opportunities to show her game at high level invite only camps and received glowing reviews. There are two primary reasons for this. First, Destiny is blessed with extreme quickness and has a fearless approach to the game. Most kids her size do not play with the reckless abandon that she does. They are afraid they will get hurt. Second and just as important, she seems to truly love playing and improving her game.
- JJ Barnes is a smooth 5’9 2024 Wing from the Wisconsin Playground Smith team. JJ has already been offered a D1 scholarship by North Dakota and is easy to see why. She has unique tools and a look to the way she plays that makes you think you are watching someone much older and more experienced. JJ has a lean back to her jumper that limits defenders from being able to contest her shot. Her length makes it easy for her to finish over her defenders both on the perimeter and at the rim. JJ is also an excellent defender that uses her lateral quickness and length to cause trouble on the ball or in help side.
- Madison Davis is a 5’9 2024 Wing that was a key player in leading Example Sports 15u UAA to an undefeated weekend. Maddie had some big scoring outputs including 16 in one and 21 in another. She has a nice combination of length, strength and skill. Maddie attacks the basket and can play through taller defenders while also showing a nice outside shot. Defensively Maddie shows the proper skills and natural abilities that lend themselves to her being a lock down defender.
- Caitlyn Leyden is 5’10 2024 Wing from Force MW. Caitlyn was very consistent all weekend in attacking the basket and playing hard all the time. She does a good job defending and rebounding from her wing position. Caitlyn plays with a toughness and attitude that lends itself well to her style of play. She has a nice outside shot that she is able to get off when defenders lay off to cover her drives to the basket.
Second Team
- Skylar Splinter is a 5’8 2024 Wing from the Illinois Elite 15u Gold team. Skylar had a nice weekend averaging over 14 points and 6 rebounds per game while helping her team to a 3-1 record..
- Trinity Chears Trinity Chears 5'5" | PG Example Academy | 2024 IL Trinity is a tough point guard that defends and handles the ball very well. She led the Lady Meanstreets 2024-1 team in scoring on their way to a 3-1 record.
- Morgan Roberts Morgan Roberts 6'0" | SF Fishers | 2024 State IN is a 5’10 2024 Wing from Indiana Showcase. Morgan is a long and smooth left handed sniper. She has a great shot that she can hit consistently if she is given any space. Morgan handles and passes the ball well from her wing spot.
- Gabi Bednar is a 5’6 2024 Guard from Force MW. Gabi is an excellent spot up shooter that had some huge shots for her team this weekend. She was a big part of helping to lead her team to the pool championship.
- Ava Collier-White Ava Collier-White 5'4" | PG Prairie | 2024 State WI is a 5’4 Point Guard from Wisconsin Playground. Ava is an excellent ball handler that can run as the lead guard or play as a combo guard. She is a good on ball defender and was successful scoring at the rim and behind the 3-point line.
As is usual in today’s game this list is dominated by guards and wings. I will have other articles coming that will highlight post players and top defenders. Look for those over the next few days.
