With the regional tournaments going on now and the Sweet 16 next week, the class of 2023 is about to close the book on their Junior seasons and get ready for their last year of AAU. With our latest rankings update for 2023, we had a lot of movement throughout the class and are up to 110 ranked players in the Junior class. Here’s a look at some of the highest ranked new names with this update.
[player_tooltip player_id="372710" first="Ella" last="Steczynski"], Dixie Heights - Ella has already established herself as a high level shooter and is primed to be one of the players to watch in the 9th region next season. Steczynski shot 43% from deep this season and she'll be relied upon moving forward to be more than just a shooter as her role in the offense will expand.
[player_tooltip player_id="358942" first="Tanaya" last="Bailey"], Bowling Green - Bowling Green is loaded with talent and Tanaya is one of their best and most talented players. She excels at getting into the paint and drawing fouls and much of the Lady Purples offense is predicated on her ability to score and make plays for her teammates.
[player_tooltip player_id="374123" first="Kayla" last="Grant"], Greenwood - Staying in Bowling Green, Grant is a formidable player in the low post and ended the year averaging a double double for the Lady Gators. She was a breakout player in the region and a matchup issue for teams all season long. If she adds a more consistent jump shot, she'll be even more dangerous on defense.
[player_tooltip player_id="393706" first="Diamond" last="Gray"], Paducah Tilghman - Diamond is a player who had been missed in previous iterations of these rankings but we finally remedy that in this update. Gray doesn't get a ton of exposure due to playing in far western Kentucky but she is a talented lead guard who can get into the paint and score and is a capable shooter from range but that's definitely her biggest area for growth.
[player_tooltip player_id="369917" first="Saniah" last="Thomas"], Pendleton County - Thomas had a breakout season and continued to improve as the season rolled along. Saniyah has good size at the power forward position and had several games of close to 20 points and 20 rebounds as she averaged a double double for the season. If she can improve her overall shooting efficiency and become more of a knockdown shooter from three, colleges will certainly come calling soon.
