Continue ReadingIt is often stated that quality guards are much easier to find than quality post players. Having been on the circuit for many years on the boys and girls side, I can honestly say that this statement is absolutely true. The number one reason for this is simply the numbers. There are less girls 6’2 and above than there are 5’7 prospects trying to attain basketball scholarships. On top of this fact, there are “tall players” and then there are real prospects at the post position. Washington is in a golden era of bigs and the 2022 and 2023 classes show no signs of it slowing down anytime soon. We have done multiple features on the high level posts in the 2020 class and now it is time to take a look at a few of the top upcoming bigs in the younger classes.
Three Bigs to Watch:
2022 6’2 PF Cori Wilcox (NW Blazers Sparks) – One of the best rebounding forwards in the state of Washington as a freshman. Cori is most comfortable playing a physical brand of basketball and she is usually the first person to initiate contact in the post. She was a double-double threat for Lake Stevens during the high school season and she has improved her free throw shooting from a year ago. She had a solid showing at the Heart of Texas event where she helped lead the Blazers to the title. Cori has received the interest of many Division 1’s and she will see her recruitment really pick up in the next year with a strong summer on the adidas circuit.
2022 6’4 C Camille Jentzsch (NW Blazers Sparks) – Cam is one of the best prospects at the center position in the entire northwest region. She has a strong frame with good shoulders and soft hands for rebounds and catching passes on the block. Cam is improving in guarding smaller players on the perimeter and sliding her feet, while using her length to alter and block shots. She saved her best performance for the championship game at the Heart of Texas where she scored in the paint at will and blocked a handful of shots. She also hit the game winning layup in the title game to knock off a scrappy group out of Texas. Cam has growing interest from a plethora of Division 1 schools, including VCU who finished 24-10 this last season.
2023 6’4 F Olivia Anderson (NW Blazers Sparks) – The long and wiry 8th grader has one of the highest ceilings out of any prospect on the west coast. Olivia had one game at the Heart of Texas where she scored in double digits and blocked 7 shots versus a really tough team out of Atlanta. Olivia is brand new to the circuit, but she made her presence felt in front of colleges. Schools out of the Pac-12, Atlantic 10 and Big Sky have shown interest after her first tourney on the circuit, despite only being in middle school. A name to follow moving forward!
*These three prospects will be at the Arizona Elite Classic May 17-19 for the next NCAA Live Period
