Senior guard Makayla Hatcher is the clear leader of this young Westfield team, and she has done an excellent job of guiding her teammates both vocally and on the court. She ended the night with 11 points, but her impact went beyond the box score. Hatcher consistently found her spots on the floor, attacked the basket when needed, and made smart decisions in crucial moments. Her ability to balance scoring with leadership has been invaluable for a team that relies heavily on underclassmen for major minutes. Hatcher’s experience and poise have made her a stabilizing force for Westfield, especially when the game is tight or momentum shifts. As the team looks ahead, they face two of the state’s top programs—Pike and Franklin Central—both of which are favorites to make deep postseason runs. Hatcher’s leadership and steady offensive play will be critical in helping Westfield stay competitive against these elite opponents, and she will be looked upon to continue guiding this young squad as they aim for a strong finish to the season.

Makayla Hatcher has shown steady growth each year since stepping onto the varsity floor at Westfield. Last season, she contributed 7.6 points per game and played a key role in helping the Shamrocks reach the sectional championship game. Her strong play carried into the AAU circuit, where she earned a couple of college offers and continued to build momentum heading into her junior season. Hatcher excels at attacking the rim, using her physicality and strength to finish through contact. With the graduation of two key seniors, she will be called upon to take on a larger role, both as a scorer and as a leader, as Westfield looks to put together another winning season.

I’ve been a fan of MaKayla’s since I first saw her between 8th and 9th Grades. She is a tough-nosed, hard-working, competitive wing who seems to always leave it all on the floor. She has a balanced skillset and does a little of everything well. She can handle it some and initiate the offense, she can knock down an open rhythm jumper, plus she can get to the rim North/South when she has an angle. I also like her appreciation for rebounding and defense.
