Madison McLane
It was a career night for Madison McLane on Friday, pouring in 30 points off the bench vs. Monroe Area. McLane was lights out, stripping the nets with her jumper as she sank six mid-range shots to go along with two threes. McLane hardly ever missed. Madison’s jump shot looks good, regardless of the results. She has good form that prompts hope that her performance wasn’t an aberration and that she can become a consistent threat as a floor spacer.
Phillips was more of a distributor in Hart County’s 66-42 win, but started to find points in the second half. Dakota netted 11 of her 13 points after halftime to pair with her 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Her floor game is where she holds value. Dakota can be a difference maker without having to score in bunches. She’s so physically strong, she can fend off aggressive defenders to get to her spots. She’s a tough rebounder for her size. Offensively, aside from her floor vision, Phillips has a smooth pull-up jumper and a dangerous floater in traffic.
Jakiyah Butts
Jakiyah Butts
Butts eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in her career, finishing with 14 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 2 steals in the loss. Jakiyah is quick in transition and loves to go coast-to-coast. The blue-haired blur splits defenders and likes to get to her scooping layups. Butts showed the ability to make plays for others as a passer off the dribble, capable of hitting baseline cutters. She netted a pair of threes to help open up the defense. Butts is a high energy player.
Chemiah Strickland
Chemiah Strickland
I liked what Chemiah brought to the game, posting 12 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal before hurting her head. Strickland has quality post moves, able to use up-and-unders along with step-throughs. She finished with both hands inside and ran the floor hard. Strickland provided activity as an offensive rebounder.
Kendall Wells
Kendall Wells
The star softball player is plain and simple, an athlete. She’s a dominant physical presence in the paint, using her size to overpower opponents on the block. Wells has a nice touch around the rim and can score with hook shots and defender-moving drop steps. For her size, she has nimble feet and quick reaction times. Listed at 5-foot-9, Wells plays much bigger than her height. She tallied 16 points, 9 rebounds and 1 steal in a 49-37 win over Madison County.
Lolly provided 8 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Her shot wasn’t falling for much of the game, but the freshman didn’t let it negatively affect other areas of her game. She’s a good decision maker with a high IQ. Willis can torch the nets from three and showed on Tuesday the ability to draw fouls downhill.
Highlights
Kelsei Gresham
Kelsei Gresham
Gresham is a sneaky good player with a bright future ahead. She scores with both hands, showcasing a lefty baseline floater. Her primary offense came from drives, drawing fouls as she went 8-8 from the line. Continuing to improve her ball handling and extending her shooting range will help in her development. She tacked on a team-high 10 points for the Red Raiders.
