She really came to play when then Timberwolves needed her. The only difference in her performance Tuesday against the Eagles was her passing eye. On top of a tied team-high 16 points, she also chipped in 8 assists, three blocks and five steals in a win. Her points were timely, her assists were more timely, and it may have been her best performance of the postseason. She led runs, she led the early third-quarter charge that proved the difference, she even directed the final pull away. Simply put, she happily kept piloting the Timberwolves through a most successful postseason.
Abby Dillon Abby Dillon 5'4" | PG Woodrow Wilson | 2025 WV , Woodrow Wilson, PG, 5-5, So. – In a morning game where Woodrow Wilson required a spark, Dillon did her best to provide the electricity. Over and over again, she came up with big plays and shots. Everything really just fell into place for the sophomore against the Spring Valley Timberwolves. She may have struggled shooting, but that was the same way for most of the Flying Eagles. Her made shots really helped the Eagles keep the score close. Her 3s sparked runs or continued runs, her fast hands gifted her group more possessions, and her attitude kept the team as evenly balanced as possible. All told, she scored 15 big points, with four boards and an assist. Even as the Eagles season came to an end, Dillon did everything she could to keep it going.
Sydney Baird Sydney Baird 5'7" | CG Webster County | 2023 State WV , Webster County, SG, 5-7, Sr. – If it wasn’t apparent Sydney Baird Sydney Baird 5'7" | CG Webster County | 2023 State WV is on a mission at the state tournament, there should be no doubt, now. Following two crushing defeats at the hands of Greenbrier West earlier in the season, Baird played like a kid not keen on allowing the Cavaliers another victory. She scored 33 points on 50% shooting, and added 8 rebounds and 4 steals as the Highlanders advanced to a Class A semifinal matchup. Her scoring included a personal 9-0 run in the fourth quarter.
Maddie Fields, Greenbrier West, F, 5-10, So. – Fields continued her success against Webster County even in a loss. Perhaps, she wasn’t as dramatic as she was in the sectional championship – when she hit the game-winning shot with 16 seconds left in the game. But, she still delivered a big performance when her Cavaliers needed it. Starting with a jumper 20 seconds into the fourth quarter, she went on her own 8-2 run that saw the Highlanders advantage cut to 3 points. For the game, the sophomore showed a hard resolve and ability to do a little bit of everything with a 12-point, 6-board, 5-block, and 2-steal effort.
Lily Jordan Lily Jordan 6'0" | PF Morgantown | 2024 State WV , Morgantown, W, 6-0, Jr. – Jordan brought her A-game in Morgantown’s first of two tests to return to the state title game. She was sharp. She was feisty. She was competitive more so than perhaps anyone else on the team. She poured in 18 points, to go along with five rebounds and two blocks.
