Some players do it with scoring, some as the point guard and some in other ways. Every team needs that one player they can call their MVP.
- Anna Hall is a 5’11 2020 forward from Civic Memorial and Southern Illinois Hawks 17u. She plays with the consistency that leads her team. This summer Anna continued to show her improvement in her game away from the basket. Anna became a threat as a 3 point shooter while still showing her ability to score in the lane. She is as consistent they come.
- Macy Silvey is a 5’9 2022 guard from Edwardsville and Blue Star Silvey 15u. Macy had such a strong summer learning how to run the team as a point guard. She has always been a scoring 2 guard that was best at nailing the open 3. She can still do that and also showed her ability to handle the press and lead the offense. Macy did not turn the ball over, penetrated and found many ways to score consistently. She is expanding her game.
- Lainie Wolter is a 5’7 2020 guard from Mt Zion and the Central Illinois Predators 17u. Lainie is excellent at running the team and being a coach on the floor from her point guard spot. She sees the floor, recognizes the mismatches and gets the ball where it needs to be. Lainie does not stop there though. She can score at all 3 levels and is always making life tough for the best player on the other team.
- Harper Buhs is a 5’9 2021 wing from Civic Memorial and the Southern Illinois Hawks 16u. Harper has really shown an expanded offensive game this summer. She has been consistent in hitting the outside shot and really takes the ball to the rim with strength. This has also led to her spending valuable time of the free throw line knocking down the free shots. Harper has always had a motor and defensive ability that made her a valuable asset. With the consistent scoring output she should have a big junior year.
- Kristen Huffman is a 5’7 2020 guard from Routt Catholic and the Illinois Inferno 17u. Kristen is a cross country runner in addition to a very good basketball player. So, what that means is she just doesn’t get tired! Kristen has been known to run a 7 mile workout on the day of an AAU tourney. She has a great stroke and will make you pay if you decide to leave her open. At the same time she uses that motor to drive, defend and lead her team. Kristen is still fairly raw and could be a great sleeper recruit for a small school looking for a guard.
- Kenzie Decker is a 5’7 2021 guard from Springfield and the Central Illinois Predators 16u. Kenzie provides so much for her team that goes beyond the box score. She is a vocal leader that is always there to cheer on her team from the floor or the bench. Kenzie is not just a cheerleader, she can play. She will hit the 3 and then make you pay off the dribble when you over play the 3 point line. She an excellent ball handler that does a nice job with a hesitation dribble move when she penetrates.
All of these players were a major cog that made their team go. Although all of them can score in some cases this wasn’t their main attribute. In all cases they were looked at by their team and coaches to provide the spark when the team needed it and they delivered. I look forward to following these girls during their school season.
