I’m sure there are plenty of other players that could be described that way as well! Hop on and comment and let everyone know who you think is a coach on the floor!
Reynolds is a great example of a coach on the floor. A good coach has a ton of trust and respect from his players. Reynolds has that same trust and respect from her teammates. They know that they can count on her when they step on the basketball court. Reynolds can and will keep her teammates involved. Her ability to handle and dish the ball puts them in great positions to be successful.
Thelen is a point guard’s point guard. And she can be a basketball coaches best friend. A coach can put her in the game and not have a single worry that there will be mental mistakes or silly plays. Thelen is way to steady for that. She’s a great passer and true team first type of player. I really think that the fact that she’s a coach on the floor type of player could be her calling card at the next level.
Just watch her play and you’ll see why she’s on this list. Miller quietly gets the job done every single time she steps on the floor. And her coaches know it. They know that they can depend on her to set an example for her teammates both on and off the basketball court. Miller is one of the best shooters in the state, but if a teammate has a better look, she’s getting them the ball.

Bryant is a perfect example of what a coach on the floor can and should be. Watching Coach Mitchell and Colleena Bryant Colleena Bryant 5’6″ | PG Wayne Memorial | 2025 State MI work together during a game is really a thing of beauty. There is a vibe there. They get each other. And the team’s play and game results are a huge indicator of that. Bryant knows to follow her coach’s lead and Coach Mitchell knows when to give Bryant the ball and let her work. It’s a must see thing, trust me.

We saw one of the next great coaches on the floor throughout her freshman season. Smith didn’t look like a freshman last year. Not even a little bit. All aspects of her game are mature beyond her years. That understanding and feel for the game allows a coach to put that extra trust in a player that they will make good basketball decisions on the court. That extra trust creates coaches on the floor and we saw it happen with Kendyl Smith Kendyl Smith 5’9″ | PG Flint Powers Catholic | 2026 State MI .
