Sharpshooters. Bucket fillers. Go getters. SMH. In this state, those who play the shooting guard position are lethal. When I think of shooting guards, someone like Ray Allen comes to mind. That person who can hit the bottom of the net at a consistent clip. However, we got young ladies who can not only shoot the rock, but can put the ball on the floor and go get a basket. Lethal combination.? You better believe it. The state of Tennessee, with all our classifications and different styles of ball playing depending on where you live, we keep “ the main thing, the main thing.” Score it. We don't care how you do it, but if you can, you get fed.

So going back to why this position is one of my favorites and one of the most deadliest positions in the game, it's pure and simple, they score. It's a bonus if they can be defenders as well, but I am just talking about putting the ball in the cup. See, what I too have noticed is that if you can score it, that old saying “ they will find it,” rings so true. Division 1 coaches have raided our state offering girls left and right. D2 and below have become solid programs, built with some of our girls on them. The common denominator is pure and simple, score the basketball.

In this state ( I'm a NBA fan so I am going to compare that way) Dame Lillard types, Steph Curry types, MJ types ( uhh, let me keep going), Klay Thompson types, Devin Booker types, you get the picture. These girls can score, their teams rely on their presence on the floor to get the job done. Simple. I will say, though our state is not known heavily as a basketball state, I do got to give credit to the girls because they are the ones putting in that extra work through blood, sweat, and tears. They are the ones who work on their craft putting in countless hours. All I can say is this, the cream rises to the top. In this state, the cream is thick and littered with ballplayers who can score it.

This season, check out some of these sharpshooting, bucket gettin' shooting guards. They normally are the leading kids in the statistical scoring column. My take, if you have a heady shooting guard who takes calculated shots, you have someone who can help the squad go deep in tournament time.

Check out some of the top shooting guards in the Volunteer state. Once again, this list isn't about who is the best. Just paying respects to those who help sell tickets when the lights come on. In the words of Deion Sanders “ DJ, play my theme music.” I list 21 in honor of Prime himself. Once again, this list is not in numerical order by any means. Just a list of girls who go out and get the job done by getting buckets!
