Continue ReadingThe rebound can often be the most critical play in a game. It might an offensive rebound that leads to an easy put back or a kick out for a 3 pointer. It might be a defensive rebound that secures the big stop at the end of a game. A small team that wants to run always has to secure that defensive rebound first. Not matter what it is, every team needs that glass cleaner to secure the key boards. Here are the rebounders that will influence the SWC race this year.
- Amelia Bell is a 6’0 2021 4/5 from Ofallon. Amelia is full of energy and goes after the ball non stop. She averaged almost 3 offensive rebounds per game last year. Amelia is strong and has a little bit of a mean streak on the court. She is not afraid to mix it up and fight for the proper position. When Amelia secures a defensive rebound first of all she will outlet the ball. If the outlet is not there she is capable of putting the ball on the floor to start the break. While she has not secured an offer yet, Amelia has the body, attitude and talent level to be a strong role player at the D1 level or a top player at the D2 level.
- Shaniah Nunn is a 6’0 2020 forward from Belleville West. Shaniah is very athletic and active on the boards, especially the offensive end. She also averaged just short of 3 offensive boards per game. Shaniah is the veteran and leader of the team and through her effort and strength on the boards she will get the other girls playing hard too. She is definitely a player that should be tracked by smaller colleges as she is an ideal 4 at that level.
- Jamie Russell is a 6’0 2020 forward from East St. Louis. Jamie will be a vocal leader for this years team with so many seniors gone. She is a great offensive and defensive rebounder that can be dominant at times down low. Jamie has great fundamentals in getting proper position on the glass.
- Kristyn Mitchell is a 6’0 2020 4/5 from Collinsville. Kristyn is a very strong player that can really fight for position down low. She has the desire to go get the ball and shows her athletic ability when the ball is in the air. Kristyn also does a great job of getting the offensive rebounds to get extra possessions. She averaged almost 3 per game and used those to get some easy put backs.
- Tyler Butler is a 5’10 2021 forward from Belleville East. Tyler is coming off a strong year as a complimentary player for East. She is very strong and tough which therefore allows her to pull in those tough rebounds. Tyler is a relentless worker. Tyler will be a key player this year.
These players are hard workers. They are successful on the boards through effort. Dennis Rodman was a valuable asset to his team because he would not quit. These girls all have that same mentality on the floor.
