Lady Vikings Get Back for 3rd Straight Year:
The Denmark-Olar HS Lady Vikings have now won their 3rd consecutive Upper State Championship. The Lady Vikings defeated St Joseph’s Catholic on Monday afternoon 52-41 to advance to the Class 1A State Championship on Saturday at 10:00 A.M.
Junior Ry’Naisha Barnes Ry’Naisha Barnes 5'7" | SF Denmark-Olar | 2025 State SC led the way with 15 points while knocking down a few 3-balls along the way. 8th grader Azauria Wright Azauria Wright 5'8" | PF Denmark-Olar | 2028 SC really made a big difference today with her play. Wright provided constant hustle and effort around the bucket on her way to scoring 12 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
Aveion Walker Aveion Walker 5'10" | SF Denmark-Olar | 2025 State SC just brings consistency to the floor each night out. Walker finished with 11 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Aveion will look to slash and play downhill at times or finish around the cup on putbacks.
Underclassmen Joy Johnson Joy Johnson 5'7" | PG Denmark-Olar | 2027 State SC and Amuria Wright Amuria Wright 5'3" | PG Denmark-Olar | 2029 SC will be the future of the program moving forward. Johnson has a quick shot release from the perimeter while Wright just a 7th grader sure doesn’t like one with her aggressive and poise on the floor at times.
The St Joseph’s Catholic Lady Knights were down just 22-19 at the halftime break after Lola Kelly made two baskets back-to-back in the closing seconds. Sophomore Tiffany Helmer Tiffany Helmer 5'7" | SG St Joseph's Catholic | 2026 State SC really played aggressive all game long with her ability to use the ball screen and take ball downhill to the cup. Helmer finished with 11 points in the loss. Senior forward Harper Greer finished her career with 11 points. Kelly would finish the night with 10 points.
Lady Wild Gators Get Revenge on Military Magnet:
This game had everything you were looking for as a fan. Streaks, Back and Forth Action, Good Playing on both ends of the floor. The Lake View Lady Wild Gators finally got past Military with a 52-46 to advance to the Class 1A State Championship Game on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M.
Lake View HS (25-4) hadn’t beaten Military Magnet since February 18, 2019. The Lady Wild Gators had lost the last 4 straight years to the Lady Eagles. Senior guard Jaleya Ford Jaleya Ford 5'4" | PG Lake View | 2024 State SC finished with 20 points while fellow senior Emma King added 14 points and a few clutch free throws down the wire. Freshman Zy’Kiara Waters Zy’Kiara Waters 5'9" | CG Lake View | 2027 State SC finished with 11 points while contesting some shots on the defensive end of the court and catching full length court passes in transition. Senior forward Gwendasia Page Gwendasia Page 5'8" | SF Lake View | 2024 State SC was kept in check most of the night finishing with 7 points. Lake View HS has now won 15 straight games.
The Lady Eagles finish the season at (22-7) and suffered its first loss to a Class 1A school since losing on February 8, 2021 to Whale Branch HS. Junior forward Sabri Mitchell Sabri Mitchell 5'9" | SF Military Magnet Academy | 2025 State SC was the only Lady Eagles player to reach double digits tonight with 13 points. Junior guard Dream Watson Dream Watson 5'3" | PG Military Magnet | 2025 State SC was kept in check all night with just 9 points. Sophomore DaNariyah Williams DaNariyah Williams 5'9" | PF Military Magnet | 2026 State SC and Lauren Willis Lauren Willis 5'10" | PF Military Magnet | 2029 SC both added 8 points. The Lady Eagles were in foul trouble all night long. Willis just a 7th grader came off the bench and played extremely aggressive inside the paint.
Military Magne loses just one senior in Zanyiah Sanders-Smith Zanyiah Sanders-Smith 5'10" | PF Military Magnet | 2024 State SC off of this year’s roster. She never could fine a rhythm tonight has she had 3 fouls with 5:05 left in the second quarter.
